1967 GMC V6 Stamp Number

I recently bought a 1967 GMC with the 305E engine. The stamp by the pass head says 305E 448472.

I'm sure it's original, as the protecto-plate has the 305E and the same number 448472 after.

Can't seem to find online what that 448472 means? Looked on the 60-66 gmc website as well. Seems as if people think it means nothing. Maybe it's just an engine sequence number? Does not seem to be any kind of date code like chevy's.

Appreciate any expertise! Really Bugs me

Re: 1967 GMC V6 Stamp Number

Welcome HBHarleyman;

First off, that's a beautiful truck you have there.
I have never been able to get an answer either and like you mentioned, it may be just an engine sequence number.
For reference my 1961 is stamped 305A 39049
and my 401M 011004 (I was told by the seller that this was a replacement engine) maybe they began to date code later years but not the early ones(?)

The Jolly website does show engine numbers and different years but there does not seem to be a rhyme or reason.

By the way, what is the big silver canister next to the MC?

Re: 1967 GMC V6 Stamp Number

I always thought the v6 was a cool engine. drove a big truck with a 401? frome PHX to varios locals in NM. the v6 was best on local routs. they had serious valve problems there whole life and burned them often. especially on sustaind hiway driving.

with a good set of valve seats, soduim filled stainless valves and thermal coatings all around... they will no doubt survive today.

I also drove a 67 gmc, absolutely loaded back in the late 70's very cool but it struggled to rev even like a chevy six. way too much reciprocating weight and clearly the intake runners were not designed for speed.

tough as an anvil .

yours looks very cool.
