Buying a c60
I just found this c60 but the vin has me a little confused. It seems to be a 1968 c50 based on the vin but it's a c60 based on the badge.
I found this on an old farm. It sat for a little over a year. The only issue I can find is the broken alternator bracket. It had a sort of rigged bracket. I'm going to find one at a junk yard tomorrow I hope. Any info would be helpful. It seems to have a 4 speed transmission with a 2 speed rear. I've never driven anything like this. I'm guessing I do low 1, high 1, low 2 high 2, etc etc. free jpeg images |

Yes, that is typically the shift pattern, but with the truck empty, you can probably leave the rear in High, and shift it like it's a 4 speed. 1L is really Low. That looks like a 50 to me, I think a C60 would have spoke wheels.

Like Leonard1 said unloaded you can leave it in high and just drive the 4 speed. Look at the GVW a C60 will generally be around 19500. A 60 could definitely still have those wheels that you have, mine does. Looking at your pictures again I see the Gross is 19500 that's the weight on my C60 and I have a GMC 6500 in the yard that the gross weight is20000. Im not sure the 50 would have the 2 speed. Theres a different segment on the site for heavy haules somebody over there can tell you better Im sure.

I noticed a few things about the engine that you should probably fix right away. There isn't a PCV valve (or no breather, if it does have a valve is in the RH valve cover), which could make a sludged-up engine. There's a lot of rubber fuel line. There shouldn't be that much. Also, that Performer RPM intake manifold is designed for a aggressive-cammed, high revving, light weight car. Not the best choice for a Goodwrench engine in a truck.

Dump trucks get battered, Consider age and construction vehicles. the front end could have been replaced with the engine. Long ago I replaced the front clip of my C60 with 1 off of a school bus. Nice truck! needs some TLC.

A C50 typically would still have the 2-speed rear, IIRC.

The reason there isn't a breather and a Pcv valve is that I removed it trying to get it running.
The fuel wouldn't pump so I had a buddy start it while I poured gas in the carb. I just didn't put it back. I need an alternator bracket. Someone told me I can't use one off of a light duty truck due to the 2 belt alternator. Is this true? Where can I buy the brackets and mounting hardware for this trucks alternator? |

Negative. We have a couple C60/C6500's that have budd wheels and one C7500 with budd wheels. It all depends on what they were ordered with.
