vapor lock
I purchased a 55 stepside 3100 w a 350 in it in april of this year ....it has been running great ...I use it everyday as its a daily driver ....however there have been times when it will run great I park it and then it is real hard to keep running ..I am being told what I am experiencing is vapor lock ...I took it to my mechanic and he said he re routed a fuel line away from the block ....but that did not help .....does anyone have a ideas, information etc on how to eliminate vapor lock for good....I am not sure it matters , but I have a fuel cell and not a gas tank

Re: vapor lock
Sounds like a carb insulator may be the next step for you if it doesn't have one already. Here's an article- http://www.edelblog.com/tech-tips/resolving-heat-soak

Re: vapor lock
also might be a good idea to install an electric fuel pump if you don't have one already.
it will keep constant fuel pressure in the line which the mechanical one wont do. |

Re: vapor lock
Ethanol fuel does not help either. When it first came our in the early 80's we had a carbed Honda Accord. If we accidentally put ethanol fuel in it and parked it after running a lot at temps over 95 it would vapor lock on us. Took a couple of times to figure out the connection. Modern engines with electric fuel pumps are designed for it. You might look at insulting your fuel line too. Around here there are a couple of stations that still have "real" gas, that is where I get the fuel for the truck and Chevelle.

Re: vapor lock
That's one I didn't think of Orrie. I've been having problems with my little beater daily 92 Geo Prism GSI since it got hot.
Guyz55 I think I have done everything that the old farts ever suggested with my 48 when I had vapor lock problems including close pins on the fuel lines from the pump to the carb, aluminum foil wrapping the fuel lines and a couple I'd just as well not mention. The Carb insulator that Chev3600 suggested is the first thing I'd do though.

Re: vapor lock
A 1in carb spacer/insulator fixed mine.
