Signalstat 105Y78 wiring help

Hi. I bought a used flarestat 105Y hazard light switch, with the connectors cut off, so I am trying to figure out what the wires are. The switch says it came out of a 1966 GMC.

I assume the red wire goes to a flasher, which is connected to a fused power source. Then I have 8 wires from the switch.

2 white wires.
2 purple wires.
1 yellow wire.
1 green wire.
1 light blue wire.
1 dark blue wire.

Can someone help me out with what the wires are, and where they would fit into the curved connectors that I will need to purchase? Thanks.

A secondary question. To make my life difficult, I am planning to use this switch with a steering column out of what I think was a 1969 C10. I think it must have had the red hazard light switch built into it, but is now busted off. I don't want to use the hazards switch in the column, I want to use the flarestat to control the hazards. My truck is a 1961 GMC half ton. My plan is to use an adaptor (American autowire I think) to connect the truck's wiring harness to the later model steering column connector. And obtain some connectors to hook the flarestat up between the two plugs. So, to my thinking, I will need a female and a male connector for a 1969 steering column harness. The female connector I will need to wire to the flarestat, then wire the female connector to the male connector, which will plug into the 1969 column. The female connector on the switch will plug into the adaptor on the truck's wiring harness. Can anyone follow my plan and offer comments and suggestions? Thanks again.

Re: Signalstat 105Y78 wiring help

Ok, so far I have figured out the following wires on the switch:

Red= feed from the 4 way flasher
yellow= left rear
green= right rear
light blue= left front
dark blue= right front

I'm still at a loss for the 2 white wires, and the 2 purple wires. Any ideas?

Here is an old link and a early 1960 schematic that may help.

Re: Signalstat 105Y78 wiring help

Thanks, that's a good diagram for the plug from the harness in my 1961. I have yet to find a diagram for a flarestat with 9 wires coming from it!

Re: Signalstat 105Y78 wiring help

Actually, I think seeing a steering column connector from a 1966 would help. Anybody have a diagram that shows what each pin in the connector goes to from a 66?

Re: Signalstat 105Y78 wiring help

Well, did both searches you suggested, and came up with some answers! Got the pins on the steering column connector figured out for 1961, 1966, and 1969. And over on the stovebolt forum, found a post about another flarestat with 9 wires coming out of it. Apparently the directions state to cut the wire in the truck going to the brake light switch, and splice one end to each of the white wires, and cut the wire going to the turn signal flasher and splice each end to the purple wires. Mystery solved. However, not sure how I'm going to wire it into my 1961. Going to try just connecting the white wires from the switch to each other, and the purple wires to each other. Then just wiring as a regular 5 wire switch. Will see how that goes.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions!

Re: Signalstat 105Y78 wiring help

originally there were connectors that plugged that thing all together. If I get a chance tomorrow I be.ieve that I may have the harness that connects it all together out of a 62 and can take a picture of it for you. if you want?

Re: Signalstat 105Y78 wiring help

A pic from the 1962 harness would be great, thanks. Yes, there are a lot of wires coming from it! Do you know what model number that is?

Re: Signalstat 105Y78 wiring help

that was a picture from years ago.I just know that it was a 105 and that it came out of a GMC. that was one that I sent to someone on this board to keep their eye out for me for a couple of items. I evem paid for shipping. when I asked about a year later he sent me a message with an ebay add for some overpriced pieces. another lesson learned . he was even a moderator for a while.

Re: Signalstat 105Y78 wiring help

this one in this pic is a 105 y79. this may have come out of the 62? you should have with your switch what you see in the 1st pic. you the split the connector at the column and put the couplers in and put it back together and that is petty well it

Re: Signalstat 105Y78 wiring help

I be-live that would be out of 63 or newer because of the type of connector it has for the upper turn switch.... 60/62 had lower turn switch and different connector

Thanks for the pics! Do I see a grey wire in the harness? Also, is it hooked up to a headlight switch in the later pictures? What for?

Re: Signalstat 105Y78 wiring help

NOT hooked to light switch it is just the turn signal wires from turn switch going into the main harness
