Issue replacing vent window handle

I'm taking care of the floppy handles on the triangle vent windows and have run into an issue. In short, if feels like the little groove/track that the pin rides against is at the wrong position on the shaft. If the handle is far enough down the shaft for the shaft to reach the stop points up in the handle, it's too far for the pin track. If it's raised enough for the pin track, it won't reach the stop points inside the handle. Has nothing to do with washer position or anything else. Seems simply like either the handle or the shaft would have to be different to work. Anyone ever experience this?


Flush... Will engage stop points inside handle, but too low for pin track on shaft.


Raised...Lined up with pin track, but now misses the stop points inside the handle.

Your missing the waffle spring washer that provides tension between the mount shaft and handle .

Yes. I left it out for purposes of the picture. If it's in, yes, I'll be in alignment for the pin the it's groove. But then the handle is also (internally) too far away from being flush with the end of the shaft to catch it's stop points that only allow it to turn about a quarter turn (fully open or fully closed positions) when installed. So in short, the handle can line up with the pin and groove or all the way on to catch stop points, but not both. Doesn't have any bearing on any of the washers.

Did you replace the shafts as well? If so, is it possible that the shafts, like the handles, are side specific (left and right side)? I rebuild mine 2 years ago, and cannot remember. If the shafts are also side-specific, it might explain why they're not linning up correctly for you.

Bought complete handle kit. Comes with handle, shaft, washers, etc. Bought a left one and a right one. They're identical other than the handle itself. Problem exists no matter how I mix and match. I have a call in to the vendor to see what's up. The more I look at it the more I think the groove on the shaft is simply put in the wrong place.
