Re: 71 C-10 Cheyenne Super
Only 2 sure fire ways:
YE9 RPO code on the SPID with an assessment that the SPID is original. YE9 RPO code on the build sheet (usually under the seat springs - often missing - nice to have as a backup, especially if the SPID looks "brand new...") Cosmetically, it should have the following (above the Cheyenne level): - 71-only chrome tailgate handle (72-only is a shiny slip on cover) - Super badges on the fender (unless it is also a Custom Camper in the case of a C20/30 or K20, which supersedes the Cheyenne and Super fender badge for the 71) - houndstooth interior in parchment, olive, or blue (no black ever made at factory) - note: houndstooth is called out on SPID as "Custom Cloth" or "Cloth Custom" - OR buckets in vinyl (only). NO houndstooth buckets. - Woodgrain dash and glovebox door with Cheyenne Super emblem on gb door. Very common for folks to "upgrade" a Cheyenne as they share the woodgrain door panels and headliner. Or to try to upgrade anything to a super for a few extra $. Most commonly missed item when people fake them is the chrome tailgate handle (pic - kinda hard to tell, but it is chrome) Hope that helps! Re: 71 C-10 Cheyenne Super
71 Super brochure may help also (note that this was a stand-alone brochure for the Super, it can be a bit misleading as some of the items described came in the Cheyenne also - like 7" foam, carpet, headliner etc):

Re: 71 C-10 Cheyenne Super
Also if you look past the door hinges toward the front fender there is rubber flap there.

Re: 71 C-10 Cheyenne Super
Didn't know about that rubber flap, Already Gone. Will have to check on my Super... but I don't think it's there any longer.

Re: 71 C-10 Cheyenne Super
Is the rubber flap really a Super item? Did I read that right? My Sierra Grande (I assume the same as a Super Cheyenne) has them.

Re: 71 C-10 Cheyenne Super
Your Sierra Grande is the GMC equivalent to the Super so it should have the flaps too. The pictured 70 CST had them as well so I'm thinking all the top line trucks had them and if someone has an original Custom/Deluxe etc. with those flaps please post it up. I've learned you can always learn something new about the trucks.

Re: 71 C-10 Cheyenne Super
Custom Deluxe doesn't have the rubber flaps inside the front door jamb.
