Re: YOM tags

Those are so cool. It's the best way to tag them. I have YOM tags on everything I own from my '87 V/30 down to my '68 flatbed.

Re: YOM tags

I am now looking for a license plate frame from the Chevy dealership that was in Malden Missouri back in the 70's & 80's.

Re: YOM tags

out of curiosity how does one go about assigning year of make tags? ive got a few unassigned yom tags still in the original package that would look killer.

Re: YOM tags

Not sure how each state differs, but where I'm at, you bring the current title of your truck (gotta have current tags) and your set of year-correct licence plates.
They make sure the YOM plates aren't already used or registered to a car, and then they take your title & a photocopy of your YOM plates and send it to the capital.
In a few weeks, you get a new title that is registered to your YOM licence plates and you hit the road.

I've done this twice in Douglas county.
Take the tag that you're going to use down to the tag office. It has to be a state-issued Kansas plate with the YOM embossed (I'm not sure what they're doing with 1976 and up vehicles since those started using stickers). You're wanting to do a 'Specialty Antique' registration. They'll issue a new title, so you're on the hook for that fee ($40 back when) if the vehicle's already tagged. If it's a new registration, you'd be paying the fee anyway.

The registration papers that you get in the small manila folder will show specialty antique as well as the plate number. That's handy for explaining to the desk jockey sheriff's deputy that you're really running a valid tag.

The cool thing is that there's no calendar year sticker to keep updated. Once you've done the initial payments, those vehicles don't show up on the annual renewal notice.

Re: YOM tags

In Colorado there are restrictions on what you can use your vehicle for if running YOM tags... but I've been driving mine for whatever, whenever, with NOS 1972 plates on, and so far no troubles.

Shop truck looks good!

Unless you live in Johnson County. I get a bill for $17 every January. I think it's personal property tax.

Re: YOM tags

I always find it odd when people call em tags. Up here we call them license plates, or just plates. The tags are the little month and year stickers that go on the plates. But whatever you call them they are a cool addition to your truck.

Holds true also for Sumner county. I have all three of my classics registered that way. My '71 Chevy 4x4, '71 Chevelle and my '57 2Dr post all have YOM plates. Like that MUCH better than the also allowed "Antique" plate and also looks better in my opinion. All have been professionally appraised and have an agreed upon value for insurance. When you start getting some "REAL" money involved in a classic it is rather un-wise not to get an appraisal and agreed upon value for insurance. Never know what can happen.

A friend of mine had a garage fire and he lost a '68 Mustang GT and an '83 Mustang along with the garage. Really got taken to the cleaners big time for the lack of appraised and agreed upon values and no documentation of the work done during the restorations. Just some food for thought.

I registered these YOM plates this summer. Found them at a local swap meet. Could not buy them fast enough.

Now that is just too cool!. Love the '67 trucks and the 67 mentioned three times on the first tag. Could well understand you just HAD to buy that one !

When I registered my YOM tag for my '71 it was one I had found at my FIL's after he passed. We were going thru a LOT of items he had kept over the years having grown up during the Depression years and after WWII when things were hard to get new. The tag I found had never been used, correct for the county I live in, correct for the year, correct marking as an 8M Regular (1/2 ton truck) and the # 834 which was the union local I retired from as a crane operator for the Boeing Aircraft Co. Everything fit like he meant it to be. Really miss that man, he was a great FIL, treated me like I was his own son. May he RIP.

Re: YOM tags

I paid dearly for a real nice set of YOM plates for my 67. Then California started reissuing the vintage copy black and gold plates. Now every new Prius and Infinity has them! Now they're not so cool.

I got a 71 tag on eBay but went to the DMV and they said GA only recognizes 1970 and older for classic tags...

Bummer.
