instaling speakers on dash

I was thinking that while my windshield is out, now is a good time to cut hols on top of my dash (beside window vents). I was thinking of putting 4x6 oval or 4.5 round speakers. Im also taking out my gaz tank out of the cab so il be able to instal speaker boxes with 8-10 inch speakers behind my seat. Has enyone eaver cut and instal speaker on top of dash? If so how do they sound. I know some of you guys and gals dont like the idea of cuting up a nice dash, but that dosent bother me much. Tell me what you think.

Why don't you just replace the stock dash speaker to a speaker from custom autosound. I have them in my truck right now and they sound pretty good.

I put two 4" round Pioneer speakers where the original was. It actually sounds pretty good, and I didn't have to cut anything (except a flat bracket to hold them). I don't know if it would work if you have air conditioning, however.

I have some 4x6's that the P/O put in. A small corner had to be cut out of the Dash (backside) and glove box insert to allow for the magnet to sit. It does sound excellent though.

I did the same thing. I used an original bracket and put two 4" speakers in there.

I can't say it sounds "great" but stereo is better than mono. Certainly better than anything else that has been in the truck in the last 34 years.

In case you haven't already made a mess on your dash and want to think about other options. I went to this web site and ordered an am/fm cassette radio with the Chrome front for my 69 C10 and it looks just like the original radio and also ordered the stero speakers for the dash. There is still room behind the rear seat back for two small speakers to give wrap around sound. The radio is a 100 watter and the speakers are 70 watt speakers. Ain't no boom box, but it will put out great sound. The URL is:

http://www.soundmove.com/customautosound.htm

The radio is $179.95 and speakers are $49.95
