Amp Research Powerstep

Has anyone figured out how to mount a set of electric running boards from Amp Research? I'm going to be running 35's with a 5" lift and the significant other is going to need help getting in. Hell, it will make it a lot easier for me too.

I looked into something like this, but the torque box prevented me from using it because there was no room behind the rocker to hide the mechanism. I went with a permanently mounted step.

I like the idea, because I have to keep a milk crate in the back for my wife to climb in. I can see the torque boxes being a big problem. The price is also a big problem for me.

I took a look at the mechanism for the door steps on my motorhome. It doesn't seem all that complicated, and unless I'm way off, it seems to be powered by a windshield wiper motor. I may go the route of designing my own step when I get that far in my build. My second choice would be to have a step that has a permanent mount but with some type of breakaway.

I already covered the bottom of the Blazer in Line-X so I need a bolt on option. It would be awesome to have the steps hide up in the rocker box, but that would take some custom fab work...

AMP doesn't picture any of their brackets so its hard to tell what might work.

I may try and contact them to find out more about the steps... They have the AMP logo on the brackets... to at least I know its possible.

Leno has a bronco that ICON built and has a single step. Almost looks like they cut one in half and used it. I contacted AMP and they said this.

The steps you see in the video with Jay Leno are made for the Broncos made by Icon. These are exclusive to Icon at this time. They are not available for purchase through us. And from the information I have they are not able to sell the steps except for with the vehicle. Please let me know if you have any questions.

If you get a hold of that guy with the Jimmy, get some pics!

Wanted to use a pair too but did not see a good way to mount them . So I went old school loop steps

Bestop makes steps very similar to the AMP Research steps. Maybe they would be more accommodating for a custom setup.

Try looking into this. Once I finish other projects this is on my list. I wanted a retractable one as well to keep the body lines clean, especially a single step instead of the full board. Haven't seen much info on these though, but haven't looked to hard lately.

How exactly did you mount them? Sheet metal screws to the rocker box? Custom brackets?

Like this... I tried to find any info but other than this video... nothing... looks like they built some custom reinforcement into the floor for them... just wish i knew what they were off of so i could start to watch for some... Hinge mechanisms are specific to something... i know the ones on my duramax dont fold up like that... just at a angle next to the cab

Agree, different style trucks are visible at all times. My brother 15 f-250 that we just did fold up COMPLETELY under the truck you see absolutely nothing. This has got to be possible....

Whats the mounting surface look like on the f250? maybe thats the ticket?

Anyone one on here have amp steps on another vehicle of theirs that have a horizontal mounting surface on the same level? My 2015 GMC does kind of... but one is shorter as it goes to the body mount in the front and the rear is longer as it mounts up higher on the body... So its level on there but wouldnt work for this application

I've always wondered what the purpose of those boxes were. Anyone know? Surely you can fab something up where those steps can be mounted. I think they're awesome, like the best of both worlds. Expensive but awesome.

Torsion boxes. Provide support for the body, especially when doors are open. Too bad gm didn't use full box frame, instead of C channel, so they wouldn't be needed. These steps or competing styles should be fairly straight forward to modify to work on the blazer/Jimmy.

I ended up purchasing a set of used steps from a Jeep JK unlimited. They have a horizontal mounting surface front and rear... so i should be able to fab something up to the rocker boxes to hold them... might have to reinforce the boxes a bit but we shall see...
