Re: Jason's 70 Big Block SWB Project
Man, sorry to read that about the tranny. It sucks you have had so much trouble with this drive train. Hope it's something minor and he gets you back on the road quick.
I have had a similar symptom on a 350 turbo, it was a bad modulator valve. good luck buddy. |

I do finally have some good news, I drove it out to town and back, probably 12-13 miles this evening..... I took it to the transmission shop this morning and dropped it off, he called me about 3:00 and said it was done. It ended up being a bad kick down solenoid. Everything was new when he built it just must of been a defective part. Anyway, I picked it up and no charge from him, he stood behind his word. I got home just a while ago and my son and I took it for a quick spin. And by the way, it will SPIN!!!!

Re: Jason's 70 Big Block SWB Project
Sweeeet! Glad he was able to get you going so quickly. I know you were worried he might need you to leave it overnight but that's in the rearview mirror now. Gears... it never ends does it? The good news is, your 427 would pull the earth out of orbit if you could find a place to hook up. A 3.08 or similar highway gear won't faze that big dog.

Re: Jason's 70 Big Block SWB Project
I did get some drive time with the old truck this past weekend I probably put around 150 miles on it Friday and Saturday and I enjoyed every mile of it. Everything seemed ok but me and the truck still need to obtain a bond between us before I venture out to far in it

Re: Jason's 70 Big Block SWB Project
I haven't posted much on here this winter but I have followed a lot of everyone else's builds trying to keep up with the progress. In the back of my crazy mind I've been thinking of parting ways with my truck!!! I have always wanted a '69 Camaro, my buddy has one and has hinted around about doing some trading. It's Cortez silver with a mild small block in it, the only thing I'm not crazy about is the black vinyl top??? It's just a thought right now, not sure what I'm going to do yet. I have also been looking on the ole inner web to see if there are any LS powered 67-72 trucks that I like for sale also. I would like to build one but with my work schedule I don't want to go through that prison again. The next 2 years of work are going to be very hectic with the pipeline compressor station upgrades and modernizations going on. So as of right now I've got some thinking to do and try to weigh out the pros and cons

Re: Jason's 70 Big Block SWB Project
It's good to hear from you Scott, I've always like the 69 Camaro's. It would be cool to have a flat paint or patina C/10 with an Ls in it to drive. I think I would actually enjoy it more that my truck I have now. I haven't discussed any money or what I want out of my truck yet with my buddy. His car is a pretty slick ride....

Re: Jason's 70 Big Block SWB Project
I'm in no position to offer advice as I've fallen in and out of love with all manner of vehicles since I was a pup. Generally speaking, I know the time is right to trade when something trivial happens and I'm not inclined to fix it. Just remember, though, what Erma Bombeck said, "The grass is always greener over the septic tank."

I'm just bouncing some ideas around in my head right now, if I do sell or trade it would have to be a 69 Camaro or a 67-72 c/10 with a Ls swap. Definitely want to be able to jump in and drive because I don't have time to build another right now...

Re: Jason's 70 Big Block SWB Project
With all the work & frustration you've put into the truck I couldn't imagine parting ways with it if I were you! Just take advantage of all this money you're about to make burning rods on those pipelines to buy a driver C10 or Camaro and keep that beautiful C10 for summer days!
I know exactly where you're coming from, I bought a '65 Chevy Bel Air this summer (it also has a mild small block and a nice paint job) that is now my driver - it's fun to drive, but it's a different kind of fun than the C10. Not many vehicles can replicate the sliding sideways maniacal burnouts that a nasty big block in a C10 offers! Only thing about LS swapped patina C10's is that everyone wants a fortune for them now

Re: Jason's 70 Big Block SWB Project
Just my .02¢... I've been following this thread from early on and even with all the trials and tribulations... it's one of the baddest builds here. The YouTube video of it rumbling is what made me decide to sell my LS and go with my 468 that came in the rad camper I bought a couple of years ago. So just wait a little while longer and get it to a show or two and you'll fall back in love.
