fixing floor, putting in carpet soon.

I'm taking a parts door I got and cutting sheet metal to patch up my floor. I know it might not be the best way to do it but this is how I'm doing it.
made card baord stencils of parts that were rusted out. traced them on to the sheet metal (68 door) and gonna cut em out with a jigsaw. Then lay them and bend them and such over the rotting parts.....each peice is going to have enough extra length to go beyond the rusted out parts and then I will first drill and rivet them in place until I can get to san antonio to have my brother in law weld around the edges of the patches to permanantly hold them in place. Will this work forever????
Maybe not, but this is the most affordable way to make progress on my truck at the moment. I know about cuttin out all the bad parts and then welding in new sheet metal, but I'm gonna do it this way and see how it comes out.
Later!!!

Hey...It sounds ok to me...Besides who's going to be able to see through the carpet once you get everything done. That's what is great about these trucks and this board. We all don't have an unlimited budget so we do what is the best in our circumstances.
I say right on SWINGSAX68

Thanks!!
Also, the PO had done some aluminum repairs on both rockers.....the entire outer rockers are alum and rivets. with the exception of the inner rockers So I am going to reinforce the thresholds with sheet metal and then re-revit the rockers to that sheet metal. They are pretty damn sturdy as is but I'm gonna make sure they last!!!!! also any rusted out areas near the gas tank, I'm gonna alum and rivet....no welding next to that thing.....and I think it would be a waste of time for me to remove the whole gas tank AGAIN!!!!! I;ve removed that thing a few times now.....it sucks.plus its only one major rust hole right infront of my driver set belt.
roger
i'll have pics later
