Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie

its been spitting rain lately and I am tired of covering the window with a towel. I want the door installed before I put in the window though so it doesnt fall off and break the window. here is a tip though. dont ever take the door off no matter how easy it makes your life. It was like a jigsaw puzzle with the upper hinge totally loose and the lower hinge still installed. but I tell ya, its the smoothest working door I have had.

glass installed, no more late night running with a towel.

have a full plate this weekend going to try and have the gauges in tomorrow though. I sanded through the white paint a little and they look a little rougher. I will put some lines on them and I think call it good.

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie

today I made the trip I was dreading, picking up my 41 and 49 that were still 60 miles south, along with paying for and picking up my car trailer I bought from the same guy. I was dreading it because it was an older trailer that hadnt been used in a while, and the brake wires were frayed and broken so no trailer brakes. also, it was two half trucks on one trailer. turns out I shouldnt have worried.

got all hooked up, my partner in crime helped. he had installed the trucks backwards and in reverse order of how I would have, so I was worried the tongue weight would be light.

while I was there I did a little more shopping. bought a smashed up grille and of COURSE another cab

that winch on the trailer is a monster, I looked it up it is a 3500lb rated derrick winch from the 20s! (older picture)

it had a pulley that let the cable go under the front truck, so I hooked it to the back truck and cranked it tight, only needed wheel straps and one hold down strap after that. then it was the 60 mile journey on back roads home. cotton is in

stopped in derby to see bartman

safe and sound! shouldnt have worried, at first I was doing 35 but eventually got to 55. that was as fast as I dared without trailer brakes. the tongue weight was a little light but ok.

Looks like you had more than enough weight on the tongue to me. I think that trailer has seen better days, for sure.

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie

really? even with all the weight on it it towed like a wet dream. its a little down on the front side because he wasnt sure what the ball size was so I borrowed a hitch and it was low. also, there is like 800 lbs on the bed to counter the tongue weight.

it needs a coat of paint sure, and the electric brakes hooked back up, but they wanted almost $600 to flatbed both trucks to my house, I didnt pay a lot more than that and got a trailer to boot!

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie

trucks look awesome. you got quite the honey hole there. For 60 miles that shipping is a bit high. But man I just dread picking stuff up anymore. Prolly cause I don't have my brake controller hooked up, lights on trailer got chewed by dog and I can't afford to wear and tear my daily any more than I do. Seems like the backroads and cotton fields made for a nice day with the kid some sunshine and no busted tires!!!

Your bed turned out really nice. sucks about the one hole tho. I like how your gauge is turning out.

Nice score on the cabs and trailer. Glad it hauled home with no problems.

Are the cabs for future projects?

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie

yep. the 41 (thought it was a 46 but its a 41) in front of the garage is already in process now that the 49 is done. and the 49 gmc on the trailer is after that. and then finally the 41 on the back of the trailer after that, BUT it may be that new cab I just bought with the front clip I removed today, its in better shape, and I havent measured but I think the fenders on the red/white truck may be bigger.

this is the one I removed the cab and front clip on today.

the cab was the worst of the 3

threaded the needle today, the black truck above was in this spot before I took it to the front yard

the GMC has a couple good accessories, the radio here and there is a GMC recirc heater with defrost under the dash

you can kind of see the heater in this picture, its actually still really nice. the picture shows the floors are completely solid but the kicks are almost gone. weird?

I really appreciate you stopping by and hooking me up with those bolts. $600.00 to pull two cabs 60 miles? I need to get my trailer cleared off and start hauling some stuff I guess. I could quit my second job then.

no problem, the timing worked perfect.

the gouging was my fault, the farmer said he had an "in" with the tow company up the street, they had hauled his stuff before. I lacked his last name and community history though, I waited 3 months for the first delivery which they said they would do when they had business either coming from or going to wichita to save me money. he gleefully wrote me up for full price and even charged me the $20 for rural delivery (that every other tow company to date has waived even though technically I am 1 mile outside the city limit). so they actually got double paid because they would have hauled an empty flatbed home (picked up another fare) I told them to wait on the rest, and have picked them up myself since. this may not be my final trailer, I still want a tiltt bed, but its fine for now.

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie

messed with parting 41s out this week, but need to get gauges at least partially done. I cant find a face color that looks right but I need gauges to shake the truck down, so I just dusted white over the sanded faces and made some marks

wired everything up

got the quad gauge wired too

first test, promising but not done yet

dont mind all the idiot lights on the circuit board, they are the ABS (gone) airbag (gone) and check engine (needs reset, from when I ran it without temp sender and other stuff disconnected)
the speedo is setting at 10mph, I had this problem in the last one, I will adjust the needle. the temp gauge is either stuck or the temp isnt coming up. the turn signals only one works, but the LEDs are ok, so more testing needed. the fuel gauge reads low too, but I only have a couple gallons in it. more distressing is I revved the engine a second and the fan flattened out and took out the temp located overflow. yay. I quit for now haha.

they are 15x8 front and 15x10 rear cragar delux 69 wheels in the standard offsets fro summit, the tires are 215/70/15 front and 285/70/15 rears. the only place to get that size in a passenger tire (not an all terrain) is from coker in the silvertown line, which they also make in wide whitewall!

in the end they were too big, with tha truck at that height the tread would rub the bed where it was cut as high as possible for the inner tub. untenable.

did the video still work? I moved some pictures around and the videos stopped working.

it looked amazing and the front had a ton of room but 31" rear tires were just too big

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie

thanks for the kind words!

speaking of trucks, got to visit the 65

seems that he was working late and someone stole it from outside. he found it a block away, let that be a lesson to all the guys who do the late model swap and program out the passlock system, it was the passlock system that killed the fuel pump half a block from where they jimmied the steering wheel

you can see the broken ignition and all the pieces there, I had a spare column and harness you can see I wired up on the floor. had to do column relearn, which is basically turning the key on and leaving it on for 10-15 minutes till the security light goes out, then turning it off then doing it all again. 2-3 times and it learns the column signal. the battery was dead from sitting with the ignition on, so I jumped it with my truck, you can see my partner in crime helping by being good.

the little jerks posed on the truck we are guessing, dented in the hood and roof

I got it going after 3 relearns, about an hour.

I knocked out all the dents for him while I was there, even strapped to the rear bumper and yanked out the dent from them trying to push start it after it died. he has been talking of selling it, I think he has a buyer, getting it running again so quickly sure boosted his spirits. he is an "enginērd" like me but it was pretty clear he would have searched a long time for the info on fixing it. I had the parts on the shelf and knew what to do.

dang, and I got all pissed this AM when I seen one of my pumpkins smashed on the street. What I'd give to catch these dooshbags. Now steeling a custom truck is a whole new can of disrespect. Glad this is all working out and a lesson learned. That is why I run a kill switch and even that you can easily wire up toggles in a sequence so its even more of a process to figure out. atleast they didn't get pissed and smash all the windows.

the hay is in the barn, its almost all over but the shouting. picking up a couple parts tomorrow and then its clean the garage for the 41.

gauges in and working, turn signals work perfectly EXCEPT they have that dumb "bulb out" glow that makes them shine dimly only with the lights on. I call shenanigans.

cleaned up
