Vette 2.5 Ram Horn Exhaust Maifold
Has anybody put them on a 68 2wd with v8 and vortec heads?
With out any modification as far as getting the tubes bent for the rest of the exhaust. Been searching forum but get lost in all the no nonsense in between stuff. Would appreciate pis if anybody has them. |

Re: Vette 2.5 Ram Horn Exhaust Maifold
I bought a set to use on my 68 with 350. It doesn't have Vortec heads but exhaust ports are in the same location. The problem I found was that in the V8 location the manifolds dump so close to the cross member that it was going to be too tight of a bend on the down pipe. I located some stock exhaust manifolds and used them.

Re: Vette 2.5 Ram Horn Exhaust Maifold
I have them installed on a '70 K20 with vortec heads. I know, the 2wd's vs. the 4x4s are different because of motor mount locations. The 2wd's are more difficult to run because of the IFS cross member. With that said, the pass side fits well, lots of clearance. The driver's side is so close to the cross member I will need to notch it for clearance. I bought cheap dorman manifolds & trimmed off the brackets. Hard to see but the forward exhaust stud is 1/4" away from the cross member.

Because I HATE headers, I put 2.5's on everything. 2x4, 4x4, trucks Blazers and Suburbans. I have NEVER had trouble getting them to clear. Yes, its a mildly tight turn at the bottom of them but it works fine.

Re: Vette 2.5 Ram Horn Exhaust Maifold
Not my engine as I have a crate 350 in a 2wd 1972 GMC LWB. I deliberated ,read, and labored over this decision for months. Researched everything I could find. Ordered the angled truck manifolds. While waiting for them to arrive, I calculated the flow difference on the vette straight dumps. I decided what the hey and ordered the vette manifolds. Exhaust shop did a beautiful job. So glad i went with the straight dumps. They replaced long tube headers and I can't tell any difference in performance.

You can also use a smaller starter to help with some of the clearance problems. I think I used a 90 model Chevy truck starter which is shorter and smaller diameter.

Are those 2.5" outlet? I think that's what he's after. I'm happy with headers, but does anyone make angled ram horns in 2.5"?

Re: Vette 2.5 Ram Horn Exhaust Maifold
Ha you are right the Ram horns do measure only 2" so if it is wanted/needed for the extra Air Flow then the Vette's Ram Horns would be the best chose. Weather or not the straight dumps are going to be a problem for that quick bend that's needed for the 2WD apposed to the 4X4's having all that room there, lowering these trucks is where the problem occurs there. That is the reason behind moving mas amounts of air in enlarging the exit points Right!
