63 Shop Truck
After selling my daily driver and acquiring a trailer load of parts for a couple 63's, I decided to build up a lil shop truck primarily using parts I had laying around. I am a bit of a hoarder when it comes to this body style. Budget was a primary concern, but I also wanted something dependable, unique, and safe as well as fun to bomb around town in chasing parts, or kids, or customers...whatever. I have a lil one man shop fixing big trucks. (class 8) I had to balance budget, time, resources, etc. I did not want this being a long drawn out thread or one that dies unexpectedly, so I opted to wait to start a thread until it was at least mobile under it's own power. Enjoy. I hope I do this right.

Re: 63 Shop Truck
After seperating all the carnage, this is the frame I got. Stock 63 after pressure washing off all the gunk. I have no idea how long this truck has been dismantled.

Re: 63 Shop Truck
I had a 66 parts truck that still had the original 292 and powerglide in it. I knew nothing about them, but I opted to try anyway. I had $0 invested at that point.

Re: 63 Shop Truck
I ran into a few snags along the way with the 292. Bought a new carburetor, water pump, distributor, yada yada yada trying to make it run right. I succeeded, until I put coolant to it. To make a long story short, the #1 cylinder wall had a 4" crack in it. Ugh...

Re: 63 Shop Truck
Added some 3" lowering blocks and altered the panhard bar to work with this combo.

Re: 63 Shop Truck
I pulled the engine out of a 65 I have that had been sitting for 18 years untouched and threw it in. Also installed a NP465 4 speed.

Re: 63 Shop Truck
This is the exhaust I pieced together out of stuff I had from other projects. I put an HEI distributor in and an internal regulated alternator.

I like how your truck is coming together. Keep on brother!

Re: 63 Shop Truck
I did not like the 63 grille, so I used one I had from a 66. Much better

Re: 63 Shop Truck
I had everything but a drivers side fender and the wood kit to do a stepside box, but to buy and ship those parts was going to put me way out of my budget. My solution was to build a flatbed. A relatively unique to this truck flatbed.
