Steering Box Interchangeability Question 1960 K10
Hope to find out if the steering box on the K10 is the same as the C10. The truck my Dad and I are attempting to restore needs a steering box due to the accident (broken tie rod end while driving) that took it off the road 25 years ago. The steering box lower bearing was pulled, and the shaft bent when the driver side tir rod end broke. Thanks in advance.

Re: Steering Box Interchangeability Question 1960 K10
they are different as the k-10 pitman arm moves front to rear and the c-10 moves from side to side.

Re: Steering Box Interchangeability Question 1960 K10
Thanks for the quick reply. I just hung up with Red Head Steering Gear, and they said what you just wrote.
So, this is rare enough to kill the whole project right off the bat, unless someone knows of one for sale. The parts truck I bought had been updated with a later power steering unit. $300.00 to rebuild and possibly straighten the bent shaft (extra cost not included in quote for obvious reasons). https://www.redheadsteeringgears.com/ VR |

Re: Steering Box Interchangeability Question 1960 K10
Rock Auto shows it, simply called "Steering Gear" $400 with a $500 core charge, plus shipping. Looks like its a 1960-63 4X4 part.
Its just never easy... http://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/c...le.com+URL+%2F |

Re: Steering Box Interchangeability Question 1960 K10
It would be nice to know the difference between the 60-63 and 64-66 and also 67-70 as they had closed knuckle axles.

Re: Steering Box Interchangeability Question 1960 K10
If this helps any , 1960-1963 "first series" GM part number 5689565. 1963-1966 Second series 5690974 this includes both 10 and 20 series trucks. You just need to look at the frame if its a first or second series , only time you will see both frames used is 1963.
