VIN Decode Master?

Been searching for a "Master" V.I.N. Decode for the older Medium/Heavy series with no luck.
Anyone got such a thing?

My newest truck v.i.n. is ES50V-C095170

Re: VIN Decode Master?

I have a 1969 GMC medium and heavy owner's manual and service manual. Both have a VIN breakdown, but it doesn't list E as a beginning letter of the VIN. The best I can figure out is:

ES50V-C095170

E - ?
S - Inline 6
5 - GVW 20,000
0V - Cab and chassis, hydraulic brakes
C - model year code, D is 1969 so maybe your truck is a 1968?

Re: VIN Decode Master?

GMC Big Truck VIN's are the hardest to find info on.

But the "E" is for Medium Duty ('67 to '69)

I believe the 5 indicates the 5500 Series.

Re: VIN Decode Master?

Thanks much for the responses!
Frustrating....
The S.P.I.D. tag AND (Military) Data Plate is missing. I just want to make sure I am registering it correctly. I know it is 67,8 or 9.
The PO only bought it for the axles and there is no Title for a vehicle that old in Maine.
I'm gonna dig deeper to see if I can solve the mystery.

Re: VIN Decode Master?

I'm looking at a '68 GMC RV/motorhome. That's how I'd do it

By the indications on the truck itself, it is either a '68 or a '69.

Maybe someone with some GMC books will jump in.

For some crazy reason, all my books are Chevrolet.

No, I'm saying I'm looking at your truck and seeing a motorhome. I would title and register that as a motorhome.

Re: VIN Decode Master?

Oh, now I understand! But,
State of Maine WILL NOT Title ANY pre-1994 vehicle. Ownership passes by Bill Of Sale only for any such vehicle. Odd rules - for what they get for Title fees, you'd think they would want everything to have a Title.

Re: VIN Decode Master?

Wish Virginia was like that.

We need Titles for everything, lol.

Re: VIN Decode Master?

Eh, no title is cool. I'd register it as a motor home, RV or however they do it there. My sister lives near Sebago. They have a Freightliner "Toter Home", a camper behind the cab plus a 5th wheel. Those get registered same as RVs, not DOT regulated.

Re: VIN Decode Master?

No problem. I'm not sure if these heavy trucks had any partial VIN number stamped on the frame like the light duty trucks, but you might look around the frame rails towards the front and under the cab. I never really looked on my firetruck, might go check it tomorrow because I'm curious now lol.

sweetK30 Here's a link showing the VIN breakdown for your '88:
