Re: Reed 78 FJ40 Rebuild
Yes, they are called "push lock" style hose ends and basically they just get pressed into the fuel line (made for this application)and are supposed to be ready to go with no need for a clamp.
The tools are to make it easy to press them together rather than doing it by hand (like my cheap a$$) As for the hose it looks similar to a hydraulic (not the same psi rating) and is fairly flexible Mark...

Re: Reed 78 FJ40 Rebuild
Pic #1. I finished up the last of the wiring on the fuel inj. and finished up the wiring for the heater/blower as well.
Pic #2. This is what I do for the wires....I get them taped every 4-6 inch with harness tape (fabric type) Pic #3. Then I put this braided loom over it to make it a bit cleaner looking. Pic #4. The FITech unit all plumbed and wired, You can see the wires in the background that have the same loom. You can still see the color of your wires but mutes them some. The last fuel fitting finally showed up so I can finish that part up and then get the hoses and fluids and she will be ready to fire! Mark...

Re: Reed 78 FJ40 Rebuild
Hey Guy's this is a post and review of the Mityvac 6838 (master kit) the 6830 is the (standard kit) it it used for vacuum bleeding your brakes and clutch systems.
I bought this several months ago and finally got to use it. Pic #1. The entire (Master Kit) all the lines, adapters for foreign and domestic master cylinders are included. Pic #2. This is the auto fill adapter. How it works is put the lid on your bottle of brake fluid (using DOT 5) set the depth of fill (max line on master) crack the valve open and let fill. Pic #3. The vacuum pod hooks upto your air line and then plug the bleed line to the other side (this goes to the caliper etc.) Pic #4. a close up of the port that goes to the bleeder. Operating the unit: put the bleed port on followed by turning on the vacuum pod (black valve on top) by pushing forward for about 7 seconds then crack your bleeder open and wait for fluid to flow, when it does let it flow for about 20-30 seconds and close bleeder (leave vacuum on for another 5 sec) this will suck out the remaining fluid in the hose and remove the bleed port and move to the next wheel THIS TOOK A TOTAL OF 4 MIN. TO BLEED!!! the entire truck and not a drop hit the floor!! The left over fluid goes in the tank to be disposed of. The last bleeder system I used sucked so bad I threw it out (leaked more fluid than you put in) The kit goes from $140.00 to $200.00 depending on sales etc. WORTH THE MONEY... Mark...

Re: Reed 78 FJ40 Rebuild
So besides getting the brakes squared away I installed the air ducts for the heater, and remaining hoses etc for it as well.
Then worked on the dash and installed the gauges for the final time, installed the new dash pad, steering wheel and finished up the fuel line with the new fitting I was waiting for. Pic #1. The dash after the work was finished. Still waiting for the glove box door and the Levo-gauge for the center of the dash (factory item) Pic #2. This is the black mat Iv'e used before on other builds (treadmill mat @ Walmart) it serves as a sound/anti slip mat Pic #3. And this is where it goes...inside the glove box is the fuse panel and ground block and now it will also house the FITech handheld. Pic #4. Finished. Mark...

Re: Reed 78 FJ40 Rebuild
It has been awhile since I posted on this one, there has been a fair amount of work done since then.
I have been able to get the last few things buttoned up and finally get all the fluids in and all bolts torqued and ready to go. Yesterday me and Dad (Oldman3) started off getting the valve covers pulled off to get the oil pump primed Pics #1 and #2. once this was done put some gas in and went to fire it.....nothing! after messing around for awhile we had to correct the timing etc and it finally fired!! It's Alive A Big thank's to Dad and my good friend Marc (not from this site ) for the help getting it fired up. Till next time Mark...

Re: Reed 78 FJ40 Rebuild
Thank's Kees!
It sounds pretty good kinda quiet (do to 3 mufflers lol) but it runs smooth so far. Still need to finish the brake in of the motor before a test drive. No video....The last one I tried posting I had major issues trying to get it up so I so forget it. Mark...

Re: Reed 78 FJ40 Rebuild
Update:
Pic #1. John brought me the rollcage back over so we could get it installed. Pic #2. After getting it set in place we had to do some final fitting (john my helper for the day) Pic #3. To our amazement the roof fit like a glove! Pic #4. The final look of the sides and roof set in place. We took it all off so he could go have the glass tinted and installed. As you can see it's almost all together at this point, the hood and fenders need a bit of TLC to get them aligned better, so some small things to wrap up final tuning and set the timing and then test drive it and fix and bug's and this one is done! Mark...

Re: Reed 78 FJ40 Rebuild
Thank's Kees!
Yeah we didn't think it was going to fit, for some reason we thought it was above the roof line and the top was going to hit the cage. but it has plenty of room between the top and the cage. This way we can fully assemble the top and seal it up and be able to test drive this thing even if it's cold out. On another note: It is official I will be getting in another FJ project, this one will be more or less stock. Don't really know the extent of work will be done will wait till it's in the shop to inspect it better. Mark...

Re: Reed 78 FJ40 Rebuild
In the last update I did on this the valve covers were leaking pretty bad so John went and bought a new set, this time aluminum
So then I received them and installed new gaskets and this time used studs for the new covers. I fire it up and it is running on like 4-5 cyls!! come to find out the boots were to close to the header tubes and burned holes in them ( they were fairly cheap made) anyways he decided to get some ceramic ones and I also got shorter plugs to go with them. Pic #2. Was after getting the new wires installed and took it outside to let run for a bit and all seems good except for a small leak at the transfer case, so will look into this today. Mark...

This is a shot before. Pic #2. Here is the mockup of the new piece I'm Making...It will be made of expanded metal like the grill. Pic #3. Here was after I transferred to the metal and made a frame to go around the piece to dress it up. (the ends will be cut off flush) Pic #4. Then I made some tabs for mounting. Pic #5. Here is what it will look like installed. (they came from the factory like this but his was rotted away) Continued....
