49 cab on 51 frame

My 51 3-window cab is in fairly poor condition and have a family member a few hours away giving me a 49 5-window cab that is pretty nice but missing doors.

So thought is to use the 49 with the 51 doors and put it on the 51 frame.

Is this a pretty straightforward swap? I think the rear mount for the cab might be different but guessing that is solvable.. anything else?

If it is too much effort, I'll buy enough sheet metal to fix my current cab, just need a bunch of sheet metal.

Re: 49 cab on 51 frame

If its free i would give it a go. Im guessing the cabs are all pretty identical. Not too sure about doors.

Re: 49 cab on 51 frame

A 49 should have the same cab mount as the 51. 47 and 48 had the center mount at the rear.

The only real difference should be that the 49 has the side cowl vent. Early 49 trucks had the screwed on strips to hold on the windlace and hold up the headliner while later 49 trucks had the rubber windlace inserted in the channel like your 51 has.

Make sure you keep your plate off the door post from your 51 with the vin on it. If that matches your title you have to have it.

Doors bolt right on no problem with that one as both have the turn down handles. You may want your strikers off the door posts if they are better than what is on the 49 cab.

Re: 49 cab on 51 frame

Go for it. My truck is a '49 cab on a '52 frame. Straight bolt on swap.
