65 gmc 4x4 build
I started off when i was 15 with a 79 gmc restoration. It went in some crazy different directions that i never dreamed of happening with it. But as some of you probably went through as well, i was young, dumb and wanted to buy a newer modern truck. All in all, i lost my butt in the end and still to this day kick myself for selling it.. Im now 20 and I came across this truck about a year ago. The guy had just bought it and it wasnt for sale. A bunch of time passed and i figured it was time to start a old truck build again so i gave him a call just for fun to see if i could take it off his hands. Turns out he had a price in mind and i picked it up two days later. Couldnt be more happier to start a build again. Let me know what you guys think!

Well it looks like you have a good candidate there, does it have the original running gear, are you going to do a nut and bolt restore a frame up or just build a DD...Remember it's your truck so do what you like....and we all LIKE plenty of PICTURES of your progress, looks like you did pretty good on the 79 I bet that thing is a beast with that caddy engine in it...

Re: 65 gmc 4x4 build
Yeah, factory running gear under it. My 79 was a 3/4 ton 2wd. I went through and took the front crossmember out and bolted in leaf mounts and a bunch of other stuff. It turned out great but lots and lots of measuring and time spent doing it... My last one i went all out on the body so im thinking this one im going to do the chassis. I have a 5.3 and a 700r4 that im gonna swap in. mild built, just cam, heads and a few other things. Then for the suspension i wanted to kinda go all out and leave the body alone (find a patina one). Im building a parrellel 4 link in the front with super duty coil springs and cups and the rear will be a triangular 4 link with bags. Powdercoated body color diff housing and 4 link bars. Do you know what color green this is?

Re: 65 gmc 4x4 build
Not sure about the green, it should be listed on the driver side foot well, I know there's someone on here that has a listing of the factory paint codes..

Re: 65 gmc 4x4 build
Picked up a 14 bolt "heavy half" rearend for it. Opened it up and found out it has a posi carrier in it too! Only paid $150 for it. The rims pictured on it are 15x14 weld racing rims to give it that wide old school look.

Re: 65 gmc 4x4 build
15x14 welds next to a 2 liter coke bottle for comparison
