short and long bed interchangeable?

i have a longbed and i would like to have a shortbed. is the frame for both long and shortbed the same length and do they have the same mounting points? in short, could i directly swap a shortbed onto my longbed truck?

Longbed came on a 127 in wheelbase
Shortbed was 115.
You can prolly make it fit but you're gonna have 12 inches left over somewheres.

I have a friend that cut 2 ft off from the back of the wheel well to right before the taillights. then he welded the back end back on. not sure what he did to the frame but the bed looked alright. It looked kinda awkward though.
