I think 67-70 were short.

Re: bumperets

Too Much is right. instructions that came with them had them placed wide, outside the frame rails requiring new holes. These weren't factory, they were GM accessories and people put them where they wanted and since the next year the tall style came out, many owners bought those. Figure a '70 was only a year old and many would put them on after that first year and might have wanted the newer look. I like the older ones on the newer trucks, personally.

Re: bumperets

Yeah, low profile and all chrome. The line is drawn between old style and modern style between the two. The 67-70s are linked to the guards used on cars since way back. The 71/72s (and up) with rubber are what came next and years beyond

The later ones with the rubber are better for push starting, as they don't scratch the chrome on the bumper of the dead car in front.

For the benefit of the new kids: We would push a car or truck with a low batt or KO'd starter up to 15-20 MPH, the front driver would wave his hand when he thought he had enough momentum, you'd hit the brakes and he'd drop the clutch and step on the gas, turning the engine over in 2nd, switches on. Usually it worked. If it didn't, they had worse problems that a dead battery or shot starter.
Now, of course, there's Uber, I guess.
