Bed sills swap?
Ok I asked awhile ago and didn't get the answer so I'll try again.
I have a 64 shortbed chassis with a 62 cab and short stepside. I had a 62 long bed fleet side and wondering if the sills from that can be swapped to my short stepside. They seem really long. Are the width the same if not can they be cut to fit what are my options.? |

Re: Bed sills swap?
the 62 frame is wider in the rear than the 64 so some of the holes in the cross sills will not line up with the supports connected to the frame.

Re: Bed sills swap?
You could cut down your fleetside sills by cutting the same from both ends but the holes where they mount to the frame and the pads in that area will not be correct for a '63-'66 frame. Additionally the holes for the bed strips likely won't be correct for a stepside bed floor. It will probably be easier to just get a set of sills for a '63-'72 short stepside

Re: Bed sills swap?
I would cut them if you are on a budget. Get bed wood without holes and drill your own. the metal strips bolts go between the wood. Pads can be moved on the sills also. Just line everything up before making everything permanent.

Re: Bed sills swap?
60-62 rear frames are 42" and 63-66 are 34", you can move the actual mount on the rear sill and it won't affect the wood install.

Re: Bed sills swap?
The frame width spec is the same regardless of bed style. Also, there should be two mounting tabs on the rear cross sill that mount the rear of the bed to the frame. They will need to be relocated inward on the early bed to accommodate the later frame width.
