Re: Barrett Jackson

I've been to a Mecum auction and as someone said they all look good on TV but different in person. If that white Cheyenne Super looked as good in person as on TV, someone got a great truck! Restored, nut and bolt, with all GM parts. $50K is a steal.

And not to be out done a 1950 Chevy 3100 went for $187000.00. Two bidders went after that one and really drove the price. It is a killer 1/2 ton.

So well put. If people have 40k to spend on a 15k truck/car, so be it. Keep in mind, this keeps the hobby going, better to be bought than scrapped.

Re: Barrett Jackson

I watched some of the auction...and the trucks I saw go across the block weren't bringing overly big bucks.
Actually....a bunch of the vehicles were probably letting their sellers down, in terms of bids/pricing...to some degree.
A lot of sellers do not want to pay for 'optimum time' showing....so they are relegated to come across the block after 8:00 at night etc...and the buyer base just isn't there at that time of night...just a few evening/night owls trying to pick up a few bargain (which they do).
If you want your truck or car on the block at 1:00-2:00 in the afternoon, which is optimum time....you are going to have pay significant money over the usual auction entry fees.

Re: Barrett Jackson

Things like Barret Jackson , selling a truck for unreal money between to rich people in a bidding war , now everyone wants stupid money for our trucks & parts. Also dislike those stupid unrealistic grease monkey shows that make people think every older vehicle is a retirement package! Rant Over. Im better now..

Re: Barrett Jackson

I bought this 1970cst truck for a little under $2300. It has a factory 402BB, 400 Auto., Ac, Buckets, etc.

But that was back in 2000. Things have changed. Barret Jackson has had some affect on our trucks but - the 67-72 era trucks like the Tri 5's have never lost their design appeal. Some trucks remain as they were bought while others are fixed up - either way these trucks are classics.

The SWB optioned out trucks were the first to catch fire - then the LWB were next. 4x4 were always a hit with the 4x4 crowd.

A BB car was out of my price range - even back in 2000. Sadly these trucks are getting the same way for the average driver today. Except for the rare options - most parts for these trucks remain reasonable.

I'm glad truck my truck isn't worth $100,000 - I would be afraid to drive it - but these trucks were made to be driven and that's what I going to do this year.

As far as Barrett Jackson - agreed there are some beautiful cars and trucks being sold. Even a WV Bus for $130,000

Surprised how much this GMC Crew brought

Wholly Toledo. Cool truck less the profile, which is disturbing.

Re: Barrett Jackson

I like how people are blaming Barrett Jackson for running the prices up they would not sell anything for these high prices if the CONSUMER wasn't bidding on it.

Re: Barrett Jackson

I don't sit and watch this show, just a shot here and there when Im doing other things. To me it looks like prices are down (limited viewing though) Really nice K10, cheap. A few Mopar muscle cars cheap, compared to what stuff was going for a couple of years ago. Nice street rods and some cool resto mods, cheap ... Of course cheap there is more than I have lol.

There is no way people are getting even close to what they have in their rides. I think for the most part though the pro builders are the only ones making dough in the car hobby when someone pays them to build their car or truck.

Dodge Truck set a production record in '68 and '69 was the second best year to date.
People forget how poorly Dodge trucks sold. Many years they were #5 or #6 behind International and Studebaker.

Still it looks like roughly 4000 crew cabs in '69 and another 1000 in 4x4

This is basically the exact thing my wife and I were talking about yesterday.

Where did the proceeds from the 48hr build go? I thought I heard somewhere that it was for charity. If it was, the sale price means nothing, people seem to regularly pay obscene amounts for vehicles that simply aren't worth it, simply because the money is going to a good cause. Not sure if its also a tax deduction.
