1966 Four Wheel Drive power steering conversion

Am about to get my '66 Suburban back on the road and I'm not looking forward to the stock manual steering. It's fine on the road but parking is something else.

Many years ago there was an article in Four Wheeler or 4Wheel & Off Road about using a crack repair plate from a '73-'87 4x4 Chevy to assist in converting to power steering on a '60-'66. If I remember there was one stock bolt hole in the frame of the '60-'66 that you used to locate the repair plate then you drilled the other three. Might be able to figure it out myself but I'm lazy and a DIY article would be great. Anyone know the issue? Short of that anyone know a link to someone else who's done the conversion? Or have you?

Here's my Suburban:

Love your burb suburbangeorge! You need captainfab's power steering bracket, a PS gear box from a 70's 4x4 (not 2wd), and some u joints. I did this on my burb. Worked great!

Here is captainfab's link:

Here is a build by aotte1 doing the conversion, starting on post #135.

ck out my build as i have the org dana44 closed knuckle axle. If you have a later open knuckle axle aotte1 is the one to ck. Both pretty much the same except the steering arm mod.

And welcome to the site.
