'69 stepside tailgate trunion... bushing? How's this work.
So, the bolt on the driver's side of my tailgate apparently rattled loose and fell out somewhere.
I have the bushing (?) from that side.. 3 questions... 1) Anyone know what size bolt do I need to replace the missing one? 2) Do I just use a regular washer (looks like a regular washer on the other side. 3) What's the slot for? Just holding it from turning or does something pin in there? I'm not interested in buying a new set of bushings today, thanks.

I believe it's just a 5/16" course thread x 3/4" long bolt with a flat washer.
Nothing special. Typically just the pressure of the tail gate will hold the trunion in place while you tighten the bolt. Don't know what the slot is for, but I replaced mine with the upgraded urethane ones. |

Thanks. I will go up to ace hardware one day and see what I can find. I went to drop the tailgate and between undoing the first chain and the second, the sucker came off in my hand. I was able to catch it before it smashed into anything... luckily.
I feel bad for whoever runs over the bolt that obviously fell out somewhere.
