custom steering wheel

Recently aquired a nice 1963 chrome based custom steering wheel which I want to use onmy 1966 1/2 ton. Does anyone know what the best paint to restore this wheel is , I need medium fawn , an epoxy paint would be recommended? I only want to fix this once. Your thoughts?

Re: custom steering wheel

Base coat clear coat was applied by a body shop and I had the color matched to the inside of my ash tray cover. I would have to look but I think it matched a Nissan color.

Re: custom steering wheel

I got my interior paint through a company I can't think of at the moment. It's lacquer. The Dark (Or is it medium?) Fawn for the dash is a flat velvety finish to it. The medium, (Or light) Fawn for the rest of the cab is regular flat.

I haven't painted it yet but I plan on using the lighter fawn for the steering wheel and buff it out. Auto paint forums have suggested using urethane reducer instead of the lacquer thinner to get a gloss without buffing. Not sure of the mix ratios, however. Using a slow lacquer thinner is supposed to also help with the gloss.

When I get home I will try to remember to post the company and part #'s.

Re: custom steering wheel

Here's that info:

I got my paint from TCP Global. The Dark Fawn is #22743 FAWN POLY (SUEDE) for the dash. The Medium Fawn is #22151 MEDIUM FAWN POLY for the rest of the cab and steering column/wheel.
