Whats This Thing????
On the top of my 350 i have a large ring that sits on top of my carb. it has a line goes off it to the passenger side valve cover. my question is, what is this thing, and how do i get rid of it? i need the extra hood clearance, and its holding me back. is it an air horn or something? sorry i dont have pics, if needed i can get to the truck tommorow and get a pic, just sorta figured someone would know what it is and what i need 2 do to get it off my engine, thanx guys

That is just a fresh air vent for the engine. Your pcv valve sucks air out of the motor on one side, which sucks air in on the other side. You can ditch it and get a filtered breather to put on the valvecover.

Once again, you're both right The thing that sits on top of the carb is for getting filtered air into the crank case for the PCV to pull. The metal fitting at the end of the hose that plugs into the valve cover is a flame arrester (look inside and you'll see lots of interlocked pieces of metal).
If you aren't pulling air from the filter, you won't need the flame arrester. Brian |
