Clear over polished grille

Subject been discussed here before using auto clear coats etc with conflicting results.
I'm looking to clear over my polished grille since it always needs polishing. I tried wax over it but doesn't help much
I researched a bit and found a commercial coat especially made for various metals including aluminum.
Used on exterior building and storefront doors etc.
anybody try it? If not I'm game and will post my results.

Wonder if having it clear powder coated would work?

Re: Clear over polished grille

I have used the everbrite on polished rims and various polished parts. Works as described, just make sure you clean the metal with wax and grease remover prior to applying. I have used a spray gun as well as foam brushes to apply and you cannot tell one from the other once dry.

How long is the coating expected to last?

They also sell it in rattle can.
Not sure how long it lasts. I think a long time being a coating used on high traffic areas such as commercial doors. . Check out the website. I'll try it and post my results

Re: Clear over polished grille

I tried the perma clear today. Tired of constantly polishing the inprotected aluminum, constant battle.
First was to polish with Mothers mag and aluminum polish and microfiber buff by hands . Absolutely amazing stuff by the way.
Then directions for permaclear say to wipe metal with baking soda and water to mutrelize any acid from the polish
Then wipe down with denature alcohol or xylene
Use denatured alcohol! Xylene is nasty stuff. Very high VOC
I bought 4oz bottle and applied with foam brush.
Laid down like a spray finish. Pretty thin stuff.
Anyway. Looks great and I'll post in a month to see how sits holding up.
I think we have something here though
See pics.
Mark.

Re: Clear over polished grille

I read their info and no mention of UV resistance? They also state easy to strip and redo, how is that accomplished? Did you choose the brush because you applied it already mounted to truck vs the spray?
It looks like the original anodizing with a thin satin finish,is that right?
Thanks for the info.

Yes I used the foam brush rather than remove or mask off entire grille
The permaclear gave the finish a bit more gloss finish.
I have to check it this morning now that it's dry.
Not sure on the UV protection. I would email them for more info.
All I know was for $20 on amazon it was worth a shot.

Re: Clear over polished grille

I checked this morning. The finish looks good. No brush marks although I used a foam brush, either way the stuff laid down nice.
Looks factory and see what time does.
I got the 4oz can and and used very little of it so it goes a long way.

I have had Everbrite on some E-T slot mags for 3 years now. They still look great and they get driven a lot.

So far the coating is working great. Looks exactly has it did when I applied it.
Previously for this I was trying wax and other products and having to re polish weekly to get the grill looking nice.
Anyway. Highly recommend

Re: Clear over polished grille

Relative to my current project at GM: we are using CNC billet polished aluminum for the bright exterior trim (body side moldings, window trim, etc).

We used clear powdercoat over the aluminum (which is the production process for aluminum wheels) but are gravitating towards using automotive clear paint over the aluminum, which gives us a little bit smoother finish.
