Msd street fire hei meltdown
Hi guys, been having a bit of a low end stumble on my 350, decided that it was to do with the terrible timing curve on my streetfire dizzy. It's got the comp cams 268XE in so I think it wants a lot more timing in it a bit quicker, long story short I bought the msd spring kit to have a go and found a nasty suprise when I took the cap off. I have removed the hei guts and used md's own 'SUPER HEI KIT' so it runs a 6al box and an external blaster coil. Has any body seen this before? Was this my own fault even though these are all msd parts or do these china distributors just suck?

Re: Msd street fire hei meltdown
Google ing says you should put the low resistance button in the cap if you're using a msd box

Re: Msd street fire hei meltdown
Yeah I've just looked into it, can't believe the kit doesn't come with it or even mention it, thanks for the help guys this is why I love this forum, American car knowledge is a bit few and far between over here in the UK. Think I'm just gonna repair my streetfire for now with a new cap, rotor and button till I do a summit order

If you aren't careful, you can nick the button with the rotor electrode; once the button gets chewed up, you can see this result. I've done it once or twice myself, and have replaced hundreds of those caps and rotors in the course of my life, when I worked as a mechanic.

The cap and rotor repair kit does but the super hei kit that comes with the adapter for external coil, the coil and the control unit didn't come with any! Not even a mention https://m.summitracing.com/parts/msd-85001

Re: Msd street fire hei meltdown
Dumb question here, but is there any chance you still have the coil in the cap? Or does the kit make it fully impossible to leave it in there? Because two coils plumbed in the ignition system would cause all kinds of fun.

Re: Msd street fire hei meltdown
Coil was removed. The kit basically turns it into a normal distributor with a magnetic pick up. Good thinking though. After hearing about the low resistance button it makes a lot of sense for it to be that
