Ramp Rat bumper?
Hey guy's got a chance to buy a old school push bumper for the Ramp truck.
What does everyone think? I know I'm not one who ask for opinions a lot on here but I'm thinking this would look great on my ramp truck. I'm torn between it and the factory bumper. I can't decided. I think the one on it is fine but the push bumper looks cool as heck and you never know when you may need to push someone out of your way...I mean help some one! Some pictures to compare.

Re: Ramp Rat bumper?
It's period-correct and it would fit the character of the truck. I think it would look pretty cool.

Re: Ramp Rat bumper?
I have to agree. The 67/68 front end is just so nice, hate to see the view of it blocked by the grill guards. If the truck was a wrecker then I'd say maybe get the bumper and cut off the grill guards. But ramp trucks weren't intended for the same kind of service a wrecker sees so it would look out of place in my opinion.

Get it! The worst that could happen is that you don't like it and you have to resell it.

Re: Ramp Rat bumper?
I don't think I'd run it on a rollback. Period correct, yes for a wrecker, but rollbacks were pretty much used for agriculture back then. It belongs on a wrecker. They were mostly used to push dead cars into the bay at service stations/repair shops, and to push vehicle off the road to hook up at times. I see a rollback as a transport vehicle than a shop truck. But that's just how I see it.

Re: Ramp Rat bumper?
This is me to! I think it looks right but it's more for a wrecker.
But I have had 2 times already where I could have used it with the push bumper already. I'm just not sure!

Re: Ramp Rat bumper?
No not really. I needed to get my sons girlfriends car out of a busy street when the drive shaft broke. If I had had the front push bumper I could have pushed it out of the road to the parking lot. Same thing a few days ago but it wasn't the drive shaft it was out of gas! Girls.

Re: Ramp Rat bumper?
Period correct? YES! I remember going to the dirt track races in the 70's and every truck there had a push bumper on it. Back when they were cutting up 57 chevys for race cars. Bolt it on and throw a sprint car on the back and go racing.

Re: Ramp Rat bumper?
Heck then, put it on if it'll come in handy. I was just saying you mostly see those on wreckers and they didn't really use rollbacks back in "the period", as far as being period correct goes. A rollback is a tool and if the push bumper makes it more useful then so be it.
Haha. I've been saying rollback when it's a ramp truck/dovetail. Same thing though, mostly used for transport rather than road service. Used car wholesalers and race cars hauling were their primary use. I'm sure both need a push vehicle from time to time. My '71 wrecker had one just like it. They don't look bad on a truck that is obviously built with a job in mind

Re: Ramp Rat bumper?
This is what I was thinking. You have a car carrier so wouldn't it be appropriate to have the push bumper?

Re: Ramp Rat bumper?
Maybe you should just get the truck that the push bumper is mounted on.

Re: Ramp Rat bumper?
I got the bumper Saturday for the ramp truck. It's in very good shape. I was surprised at how well it looks. He left the lights on it also.
I'll hook the turn signals up to it.

Re: Ramp Rat bumper?
Now you can bump 'em into position, then grind 'em up the ramp with a winch. I would'a bought that front bumper too. Good move. You can't get too much period equipment.
