Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Installed new lowered leaf springs, shocks and shackles in the rear.
Forgot to hit all the bolts with PB Blaster before I started. Advil to the rescue. Get an old truck, they said. It will be fun to work on, they said. The rear sits about an inch and a half lower, but rides way better than it did on the old leafs (last owner pulled leafs to lower it). The front will be addressed with much attention this coming weekend. Last edited by joel5150; 10-31-2017 at 10:59 AM. Reason: add picture |

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Passed " Taxachusetts " inspection early today! I never wait this long but just replaced power steering pressure line that let go at the inspection station a few days ago. The two guys inspecting had a lot of interest in the K/10 and shared some of their CHEVY stories. Made it a fun time. Just wondering if Your STATE INSPECTION stations are taking pictures of the odometer, vin and all four corners? Next thing will be a chip in all of us so they can track are movements.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Ordered a new radiator through ebay, went to an auto parts store and got a grease gun and hit all the fittings i could find on my drivers side. The three block squeak is gone! I'll still have to deal with small coolant puddles for another week or so.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I don't think you legally can. Only options are the antique auto plate or a regular plate, like mine has.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Sounds similar to antique plates. I don't mind paying for yearly registration. Once I get my truck done the way I want, I'll be driving it any time I want.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
California has antique plates and you can also run YOM (year of manufacture) plates. My truck is from Arizona, so I found my YOM plates on eBay. California trucks also have to use Commercial plates.
In order to register your newly acquired YOM plates to your vehicle it has to have the correct year sticker on the plate. Also found on eBay. The antique plates are brand new, boring looking and have use restrictions. In my area, they're considered lame and nobody uses them, except maybe the stocker Model T owners. YOM plates are much cooler looking. You're supposed to keep the YOM sticker on the plate and the annual sticker on a little plate on the side. This was on my 911 barn find that hadn't been on the road since 1980. I just slapped the yearly sticker on my truck to make it look like the plates have always been there.

Nothing done today but yesterday I found (woohoo) and ordered what I hope and expect to be the correct AN fitting to allow me to use both braided hose and my Monojet carb. Summit sent the wrong fitting. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Last night we started on the 67 GMC. dropping it from a 6 inch lift to a 2.5 inch lift. Also replacing both axles with a matching set from a 79 Blazer (original axles I bought it with didn't have matching gear ratios... grrr...). I have had both replacement axles in the garage for some time but had been putting it off for a while because life is busy. Well the other day I felt something weird in the rear while driving and found the drivers side spring perch in the back had ripped loose. So I guess it was time. I'll take pictures tonight when we finish it up, I forgot the camera last night. It's going to be so much better to drive now.
