63 grille question, driving me mad this is

hi all

aside from the more important jobs on my list I thought ordering new headlamp rings and fitting them would be dead easy.

I've ordered 36-4303 headlamp rings as the square ones I later learned was for 64's onwards

Then I realised I didn't have the little retainer things that the screws screw into so contacted LMC and have received 4 little black metal clips that seem way smaller than the original indented bits around the headlamps, they also said I need some 30-0574 screws.

Offering the round shiny new bezels to the existing grille nothing seems to fit, does the bezels simply sit flush to the grille as they appear as if they slot in then twist around to match the screw holes, they don't do this?

The screws I was told to order are tiny and no way slot through the bezel, into the screw retainer and hold the bezel ring to the grille ??

I presumed I had to take the grille off but this seems a task in itself, is this an easy job as I cant see any obvious bolts to remove without taking the whole front off?

really appreciate some guidance here

Thanks

Re: 63 grille question, driving me mad this is

I'm thinking the fix is pretty simple, if I'm seeing this correctly.
First take the bulb out of the way by removing the ring that holds it in. Then push the black clips onto the three recesses around the opening. Those clips kinda loosely pinch the grill to stay in place and your new bezel screws will thread into the black clips, passing through the larger holes in the recesses.
So, bulb comes out, clips go on, bulb goes back, then bezel gets screwed on. Pretty easy, just be sure to push the black clips into place with the smaller hole out.

It's kind of hard to tell in the pic, but I think those screws are not correct. They look too short and look to have a oval or pan head. The correct screws are a flat head screw and I think they need to be longer. And you will need 6 of those clips.

Re: 63 grille question, driving me mad this is

Thanks guys, and yes Captain I think you are correct, the screws they supplied as correct don't even poke out the end of the hole in the bezel so will no way fit into the little retainer clips ( I have two already still in hence only the 4 ordered)

Off to contact LMC again and another 3 week wait I guess...........

Thanks for confirming i'm not going mad
