Shaved firewall questions

I am shaving the firewall on my 72 and was wondering what everyone is doing with the wiring harness and parking brake? How are you mounting the fuse box so that it is not going through the fire wall and are you just not using an e brake? Who's wiring harness are you using? I have used aaw harness in my nova and really like it but there may be better options? Pics of the fuse box mounting would be nice

Hey there 70CHEVYBB,
I was in your situation a few months back regarding the firewall. I welded up the holes for the parking brake and harness. To mount the harness, I welded up two bolts/studs on the inside, by where the factory one was. For the parking brake lever I also welded up two studs on the inside and cut slots on th parking brake itself to mount on the inside of the firewall. For the harness I’ll drill a hole near the tunnel and for the parking brake cable I’ll either have it come out near the booster or maybe one of those cut to size cables and run it towards the back of the driver side fender. My harness appears to be one of them basic kits. Closest i found it to be was from JEGS. Worked perfect before I tore truck apart. I’ll see if I took a pic of the harness.

Im kinda thinking of leaving the e brake out all together. I had about the same idea for the fuse box mount but i was thinking of welding threaded rod coupler to the fire wall. That way i can just use bolts to hold it down. What wiring harness did you use?

COuplers would work. The preciousness owner had installed the harness. After taking it out I couldn’t find any part number or brand. I searched and found a JEGS brand 22 or circuit one that looked similiar. Has everything I need, even has for power windows. I have it all put away in boxes out here ise I’d take a pic for you

Regarding the parking brake, leaving it out also works.. they make a pretty neat electric parking brake, E Stop I believe. Push button parking brake, and no visible brake cable and lever on firewall.

I just finished doing mine on my 67. I used an American auto wire wiring harness and made a bracket that the fuse block bolts to the welded the bracket to inside of the firewall. I used a later style E-brake but I will still have bolts going thru the firewall to it, bu relooked the hole where the cable passes they to down low where you won’t see it. You could use a 67 ebrake that bolts horizontally under the dash and you set it by hand rather than your foot. It keeps it off your fire wall but personally I think it’s an eye sore in the cab

I mounted a later model of foot pedal emergency brake to my 67 cab by reinforcing the area of the fire wall and welding studs to the inside of the cab.

I had to trim the pedal assembly where it attaches to the dash and drill the hole in the dash for the mounting bolt.

I used the original location for the bulk head connector, speedometer cable, and emergency cable on the fire wall...I was not going for the totally shaved look.

Just to clarify I have a 67 cab on a 70 model truck/chassis.

so are the washer pump hoses or just wiring that is coming out below the fuse box on the firewall.

That is the engine wiring for the distributor and electric choke.

I, unfortunately, did not fill in those holes above the fire wall pinch weld and felt there was no good way to plug them without a repaint.

So, I went a head and ran the harness on top. I would have preferred to run it low and out of sight, but things happen.

I have not run my washer hoses as you can see the two open holes above the pinch weld. I am going to run a later model washer bottle with internal pump located in the original location, therefore, I was able to fill in the original hole with the three hole grommet.

I used a Rebel Wire harness. It exits out of a grommet behind the inner fender.

I'm not shaving my firewall, but I just purchased a harness for my Blazer from E-Z Wiring. It has blade-type fuses and mounts on the inside of the cab. It doesn't have the two-piece junction block, just a grommet that passes through the firewall, but I suppose you could have it exit wherever you want it to.

68Stepbed what type of grommet did you use? Do you have any more pics that show the grommet with the wires coming out behind the inner fender.

This link has my parking brake setup. You can barley see it under the edge of my seat. Does not take much room to apply it (pull it up) and its a super easy install drill 2 holes and cut about a 1/4 wide x 2" slot.

It's just a standard 1" rubber grommet. I'll try to get a better picture while the inner fenders are still out.
