tranny swaps
in my 71 lwb 2wd, i am going to be swapping out the turbo 400 for either a 3 speed saginaw or a 4 speed saginaw car transmission with a floor shift. i was wondering if i could get a little advise from the crew out there if i will have to add a different crossmember or if i can use the same one and if the shifter will come through the floor in a decent location. thanks much for the help

Why would you want to swap? automatics are the way to go IMO

All the car tranny swaps I have seen (which is only a few) stick the shifter right under the seat, or so close that it's like reaching for the can of pop that just rolled off the seat.

that could get uncomfortable i would think so,,,is there any other type of swap so that i could have a stick shift in my truck without having the granny geared truck box. i also threw around the idea of using a "three on the tree" tranny that came out of a 72 2wd lwb and putting the conversion kit by hurst in it to make it a floor shift.

Keep the auto---put a shift kit and an aux. cooler in it.

the 3 speed tranny and hurst shifter would work well.

The standard trans with the hurst shifter doenst go anywhere near the seat Its about 4-6 inches in front of it . really nice compared to that colum shift crap.
Ive got a hurst mystery shifter on a three speed if you need. one. |
