1969 c10 wont start

it sat for more than a few years but we had got it running again. it ran a couple weeks back but it would shut off about a little less than a quarter of a mile. and now it wont start. Its getting fuel, its getting spark. i emptied the cylinders thinking i flooded it. but idk whats wrong. any help is appreciated

What distributor?
Is your choke working?

I pulled plug and stuck a screwdriver in it and grounded it.

350 small block i believe.

Could be weak spark. Could be bad coil.
Have you checked the distributor to see if it might of moved or is loose?

Take a pic of your motor with the air cleaner off. Might help.

Yeah i checked looks fine from what I can tell. The spark does seem weak. idk how to add pics. i thought i did but i dont see it. but i was told to replace the radio capacitor. which i did and it started up but only for couple seconds and then it wouldnt start back up. so maybe the timing is off?

Did you run it on bad gas at all? Believe it or not, old gas if it starts and runs can cause a valve to hang open after it cools off. Intake valves not closing could cause a no start.

That's probably extreme BUT if it has gas and spark and won't start you've got to look at other options. Nylon gear timing chain slipped?

I like to use pre-mix 2 cycle gas to try and start motors as they provide some cylinder wall lubrication. Fill a paint thinner can cap and dump it in the carb, crank it over and see if that works. Then I'd be looking at fuel pump or carb.

Looks like an hei dizzy.
Could be a bad module. Or stuck weights. Or bad coil. Or bad rotor.
If you stroke the throttle do you get a couple strong shots of fuel.

yeah it had some terrible gas. we've replaced it tho. ill try that out. i put seafoam in it. a couple days ago hoping that would clear it out

If you're getting spark why do you think it's the distributor. Temporarily run a 12 gauge wire from the positive battery terminal to the distributor BAT terminal then check your spark. If it's not a hot spark then I would suspect the distributor. Your distributor needs a full 12 volts to give the hottest spark. Where did you run the BAT wire from? If you used the stock coil wire that went to the positive coil terminal, then you are not getting a full 12 volts.

My 70 won't start.
I don't see any spark
I've pulled a plug, used the black side of my jumper cables to insure a good ground on the plug. Plus, I can lay it on the cowl and look for spark. Since I have no help. On the positive side of the coil I read 5.7vdc and zero on the negative. The run post on the starter reads 5.8 vdc. The points are .030 open and are new along with plugs, wires, coil, cap, rotor and condenser. I parked it to rebuild the carburetor and now she won't fire.
Any ideas?

.030 is way too much for the stock points. If they are set at .030 they probably are not closing so no spark. Set them at .019 if they are new.
