steering clearance
installing steering column linkage in my truck. i have borgeson stainless joints but one is rather close to the headers, about 3/4 inch from the joint itself, is this to close ? i looked thru borgeson's literature but can not find any reference to exhaust clearance.

Re: steering clearance
ive seen some close like that but don't know the longevity of the joint. if you have no choice and need to put the joint in that spot then make a heat shield for it.some sheet metal to shield would definately be better than wide open.
got a picof your set up? |

Re: steering clearance
I've seen lots of them much closer than 3/4 inch. Never heard of a failure. I don't think they have any plastic parts, so about all that could happen is the grease gets hot and thin. But they don't really work hard, not like a driveshaft u-joint that spins thousand of revolutions per mile.
What kind of headers do you have? Cast iron should radiate less heat. Also coated headers are NOTICEABLY cooler than uncoated. It will mitigate the issue to have coated headers. Or you could install header-wrap where they pass near the joint. |
