Juast purchased a 72 C10 2wd today *nervous*, hopefully my Chev mechanic’s “once over” doesn’t cost me too much, so I can get rims/tires and a 2/4 drop kit (and a few other things). I just wanted to say, GREAT thread. It educated me on something I was not too familiar with. I know this is an older thread... but, 👍🏽👍🏽 Thanks for the info!

2/4 drop, cut 1 ring off front 75 front spring , Jeep TJ spring's in rear, shock relocate in rear (homemade). Truck rides awesome and corners like its on rails 275/60/15 all 4 corners never has been alighned .been running this for 8+ years . ONly problem is the back tires wear out faster than front maybe alighnment issue

I know this is an older thread, I just wanted to add another thought.
These trucks are old, and with time, use on the farms and stuff the springs will loose their rigidity over the years. For example a 68 model truck, new would sit quite a bit differently than it would 54 years later. Just keep in mind if you buy new drop springs, that measurement is taken in comparison to a new spring. Stock vs the drop spring, it will sit 2" lower yes. But it is not measured against a 54 yr old sagging spring. It may sit 3/4-1" lower. It's a lot of work to lower one regardless but just know that 2" drop may not give you a true 2" net drop. As others have said, using a drop spindle it's going to be a true net drop. 2" spindles will give you 2" drop. Be careful with 15" wheels, especially 8" rallies if you go with drop spindles. This is why a majority of the trucks you see have larger diameter wheels. 4.5" / 6" drop looks really good on these trucks. Just my opinion.

I think I'll try a 2/4 drop using only springs on my 1970 SWB, this summer. I did what amounted to a 5/7 drop on my 81, and although once I was done with the flip kit and the spindles etc I was quite happy, it was quite the production.
I've had the 70 for 7-8 years and done nothing to it except drive it, mostly because I am a maniac for one thing always leading to another. For me it is either project creep or analysis paralysis, nothing in between. To explain: I wanted to drop it in the weeds, but - I thought - if I were to lower the stance I might as well upgrade to power and disc brakes too... and if I were doing that, then I should also swap everything over to five lug... and then I have to choose new wheels... and get a panhard bar and shock relocators and so on... and why am I doing this when the truck clearly needs a new engine? Long story short I have been wracked with indecision and have gone nowhere with this truck as a result. This summer I came to the realization that I have been driving this truck around for quite awhile and I need to check my brake pads and drums, and I expect that they will be overdue for replacement. I think I will just replace everything with OEM and skip the disc and lug upgrade, but buy 2 and 4 inch drop coils and give this truck a better look than what it has now. I like the look of the trucks in this thread and I know I will be happy with this incremental improvement. This is my favorite truck and I haven't event started a build thread for it. Gotta make some decisions.

My truck with 2-1/2" drop spindles in the front and 4" progressive drop springs in the rear. I purchased brand new, stock height springs for the front while I had the whole front end out for rebuild. I might have liked it about 1" lower in the front but I'm happy with the stance. 255-70x15 all the way around on 8" rally wheels.
