NP 205 transfer case

Has anyone here ever had to replace the output for the front driveshaft on a np 205 transfer case? I'm going to buy a 77 chevy 4x4 for a mud truck, and the front output is broken off. I was wondering how hard it is to change it and how expensive. i'm suprised that it even broke but that don't matter now.
I was using the 93 for mud but I need it everyday and can't keep fixing all the mud damage. the 77 will take abuse and at least I don't have to fix it before the next day.

what exactly broke? Im assuming its not just the front yoke/flange since you probably know thats an easy fix - one nut (1-5/16" i beleive)

if its the front output gear, hmmm Ill have to remember real hard back to when I had all that stuff apart.. its not HARD if you're a capable mechanic, that is for sure... I have changed the input gear, and it wasnt exactly rocket science... I would remove the transfer case from the vehicle and put it on a bench.. then watch real carefully how you take stuff apart.. i Think there is a big aluminum cover behind the front output (on the rear side of the case) that the gear will come out thru.... There are several sites with exploded views of the np205 on the net if you look, and Ill bet you can get that part on ebay or I can give you the address of some good drivetrain parts suppliers if you cant find a used one in a junkyard or the internet.... good luck and keep us posted

I haven't gotten under it, but it looked like the shaft itself was twisted off. I am a capable mechanic, and i was hoping to not have to pull out the transfer to do this. I will, but i didn't want to move the thing if I don't have to. What web sites have an exploited view? I would like to see what I will be up against.

You might want to look at this webb site. This is something I saw on a forum awhile back. it might have been this one. Anyway, go to HTTP://okcnetworks.com/bronco then click on Tech Articles.
Go down to NP-205 rebuild.

I saved it on my favorites but not being very computer literate I don't know how to bring it back to this message for you to see it. This should show you everything you need to know.

I clicked back to look at this reply I sent and by me putting in the webb site all you have to do is click on it and it takes you right there.
Does this now mean I am a computer Guru??? I have no idea how that happened but there you go.

I just went to double check that what I put in above worked and when I went there my computer locked up and I had to reboot.
If some one can figure how to get in there or tell me how to bring it from my favorites to this site I will post it. The way the old forum was you could search down at the bottom. on this new format I can/t find it.
But for anyone going into a np205 it is excellent. Very detailed descriptions and pictures of every step.
Sorry for not knowing how to post this so its simple to get to.
