Broke my shift selector tab

Dropped my column tonight and broke the tab the cable goes around on the gauge cluster. Any easy repairs for this guy? Not happy. Maybe pull the bezel and drill the dash and stick a little nut and bolt in there

Thoughts?
Thanks
Chris

Re: Broke my shift selector tab

It is cheaper to just go & buy a new one.

I bought mine at Rock Auto

Re: Broke my shift selector tab

Sorry...read it wrong.... Maybe drill like you said, but install a "Shoulder Bolt" that the cable will ride on.....

Re: Broke my shift selector tab

I managed to get several more years after mine broke with liberal use of JBWeld to put the old piece back. But do plan on a replacement cluster housing at some point. Mine eventually picked a new place to break. Apparently , 40+ year old housing plastic gets a bit brittle.

Re: Broke my shift selector tab

Chris, that same piece was broken on my pickup and I fixed it just like you described. I put a little flat washer on the screw and a short section of steel brake line for the cable to ride on. It works fine!
