25 gallon Fuel tank in a SWB?

Just putting together a rather large parts list for a build.

I'm looking to run a 6.0L truck motor and want a larger gas tank.
Specifically I wanna run a 87-91 Suburban or Blazer 25 gallon tank part number gm15c or rtg9125 so I can drop in a AC Delco EP381

But the tank ooks to be 10" longer and I'm concerned it won't fit length wise between the QA1 rear end assembly (specifically the panhard bar) and the furthest rear crossmember. I do plan to raise the bed 7.5 inches so the hanging depth is not a concern.
Just wondering if anyone has done this?

That's what I fear.
At 15mpg the extra 6 gallons would be nice, not to mention it's nearly 1/4 of a Boyd tank

This tank will fit in a shortbed frame. I have done it. Just remove the rear brace. I use the word brace loosely as it doesn’t effect the rigidity of the frame.

The rear brace where the tail lamp harness comes thru or the crooked one just aft of the axle?

To the OP, if the tank will fit, your plan will work great. I have the same tank and pump running my 5.3

Awesome thanks everyone. I have a long bed that is being cut down. I know 6" is supposed to be taken off the rear but I've seen where only 4" needs to be taken off the the bolt holes can be adjusted for the additional 2". That should leave plenty for the tank.

Jesse, I’d like to do the same thing but in your pic it shows a straight filler neck but all those part numbers come up with a curved one. Did you modify the neck?

Also, I think I’d need more fuel than the pump mentioned as I’m doing a turbo 6.0 ls. Wonder if a higher flow pump would fit in the basket? Would you happen to remember the basket assembly part number?

Been searching like crazy for the last few days on the subject but can’t seem to find a pic of the finished install from behind. After reading I’m now concerned about how the tanks looks from behind; well, that and where the exhaust pipes would now exit the truck. Anyone have pics of this 87 tank finished up and a view from the rear?

It doesn't hang as low as the blazer 21 gal tank. So you should be ok. As for exhaust. You can dump before Axle or flip them over the frame

I missed this post. I had a straight neck put on the tank so I could use a bed fill.

You cannot see the tank from the rear of the truck. It does not hang low. The tank sits between the frame rails, so you’re not limited on how you can route your exhaust.

Can anyone let me know a part number for the sending unit/basket part number for this tank. If I simply search for 87 blazer tank it looks like there are a few different option. I’d like to get a basket I can install a walbro pump in to support 600 whp

I’m coating the frame this weekend and get to start mounting stuff back to the frame. Jesse; how did you mount the tank? Did you purchase straps? The only way I can see when dry fitting the tank is bolts through the tabs of the tank but that seems like a bad idea.

I thought I would post some pics in case someone digs up this post and is wondering the same way I was about fitment.

I still never got a good answer how others have mounted this. My best guess after dry fitting it, is to add some rubber pads in specific pressure points where the tabs meet the frame and then getting some sort of universal gas tank strap while also adding some rubber between strap and tank as well.
