Insurance for Daily Driver C10?

What insurance are you guys using for your trucks? I've been struggling to find a provider that will allow me to register my truck as a daily driver.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Insurance for Daily Driver C10?

Any insurance company will insure your truck as a daily driver...and they will insure it for a dollar amount that you won’t like, or a premium you won’t want to pay

And don't try to make a claim because they won't think your old truck is worth what you think it's worth

There is no reason any insurance company won't insure your truck as a daily driver. Unless you are talking about classic vehicle insurance which usually has limits on mileage.

Re: Insurance for Daily Driver C10?

Hello, I carry State Farm liability only for my ride. I figure if i wreck it, I can fix it. The premium is around $90 for 6 months, with my good driver discount, etc.

Re: Insurance for Daily Driver C10?

I've tried Nationwide, but since it's a 68 they go through Hagerty. Hagerty won't insure it as a daily and told me they won't reconsider for another year. Grundy declined my truck (probably because it's not nice enough lol). I was trying to keep everything under the same insurance company but it's sounding like that may not be possible.

I have Progressive, you can state a value but in a total loss they can use book value which is kind of worthless.

That seems kinda high at $720 per year. I just went through American Collectors Insurance for my 70 GMC and my 1967 Cutlass. I have and agreed value on the GMC for $50,000 and agreed value of $32,000 on my Cutlass. My annual premium is $561 for everything. And I have two different states involved. SD is my residence and both vehicles are in GA.

Sounds like you need to check with someone other than Nationwide, or your agent misunderstood you. You want regular insurance and they went with a classics-only provider. The problem I've run into with old vehicles with regular insurance is getting full coverage, but haven't tried in recent years because it really isn't worth it unless the vehicle has a high value. They create a void there... or used to.

We are talking regular insurance here, not classic. I have my 23 year old '95 Suburban insured through Progressive, just liability, and my 46 year old K2500 fully insured with free $1,500 spare parts and road service through Haggerty. The Suburban costs for 6 months close to 3x what the K2500 costs per year... about $900 per year for lame insurance vs $168 per year for top shelf. That's how it works.

I did get a quote from Hagerty of $700 on the GMC and $441 for the Cutlass. Combined agree value of $82,000. That's why I went with American Collector. Same coverage for $561. Both rates were annual coverage.

Re: Insurance for Daily Driver C10?

But that is collector insurance and not daily driver insurance. With collector insurance you also have to have a daily driver insured.

I use American National Chrome for my collector insurance. Rufas that is a good price. I have similar value on my cars and the premiums are $580 a year. And that is with an 18 year old driver in the house.

Re: Insurance for Daily Driver C10?

Added about 9$ a month to put liability insurance on the truck I just bought. My truck isn't worth having a full coverage policy or anything fancy. I now have 4 vehicles on that plan. It is through North Carolina Farm Bureau. I have auto, home, 4 life insurance policies and until the ACA screwed us in 2010 I had 3 health insurance policies with them.

If you were local in NC, I'd highly recommend Jake (but not with State Farm) at the Yadkin County Farm Bureau office for an agent.

Re: Insurance for Daily Driver C10?

Do you want to just get your truck to be legal on the road, plates and registration type insurance, or are you concerned about repairs & replacement if you were to have an incident? As I understand it, those are two very different things.

One key phrase I have heard used is "declared value." But you have to be sure of the terms of your policy, because the insurance company may not pay you the "declared value" if they were to total your truck.

Listen to C10 Talk Episode 97 "Appraise & Wreck." Ronnie's guest has a lot of good information on the topic to help you make your decision.
