Other than the obvious shortening the frame, brake lines, drive shaft... What would be involved in swapping from a cab and chassis to dually bed. I know the rear end is narrower, will it fit under the wheel wells of a bed? I've done several lwb to swb just not sure on the dually axle. Thanks in advance for any help.

If memory serves me right they used Dana 70's in the regular 1 ton trucks, so might have to swap the rear axle?

Yeah the axle is a bit narrower on the cab/chassis. If you go to a fleetside bed, you'll need to redo the wheel tubes in the bed to allow the tires to sit in closer. Or change to a normal, slightly wider dually rear end.

The do look neat with most of the wheels under the bed instead of the big ballon fenders, but you lose bed space.

thanks for the help. Are the spring pads in the same location with both axles? or would I need to get hangers from a non cab chassis/relocate perches on dually axle?

That part I do not know, especially on the square models.

All 1 tons should have the same spring perch distance, whether SRW, DRW, or C&C, all of which being narrower than a 3/4 or 1/2 ton spring perch distance.

You generally have 4 options.

1. Keep what you have and build a flat bed/utility bed

2. Swap to a full width dually axle and a dually bed

3. Swap to a SRW bed, widen the wheel tubs slightly, the tires will be about flush/hang out slightly from the fender. I believe I recall the interference to the inner tub being slight, as in, potentially depending on tire setup, I've heard of some guys clearing by a hair, to some hitting. A slight lift in the rear would also clear, if you don't intend to twist it up much.

4. The C&C and SRW 14 bolt axles are an identical housing. You can swap hubs/brakes from a SRW onto your C&C and have a SRW axle.
