Trying to identify front suspension

Father in law just bought a 51 Chevy 5 window. Thinking this is a mustang ii front in but I'm guessing. Truck has some body roll. Trying to figure out what to do to minimize it and make it handle a little better.

Yes, that is the orginal style MII with the rear brace. You don't have a front sway bar, that will make the front end tilt side to side. Install a sway bar and it will be better. Also the bottom control arm should be paralle to the crossmemer. Someone may have cut the spring, or it isn't heavy enough. You have very little travel with the shock...Jim

I'll pass this along to him. Are they pretty much all the same for certain years making finding on to fit fairly universal.

I think the MII and Pinto front end was from 1974 to 1978 and were all the same. You can buy parts from many venders. Speedway has lots of different stuff for them...Jim

Agree, MII setup.

To get those to handle and not have bump steer issues, the lower arms need to be parallel to the ground at ride height. If they are stock height spindles, I would replace with dropped spindles and get springs to get the arms back to level.

That one is going to have some bump steer issues. I would take a measurement on the toe as it sits now and then jack it up three inches and recheck the toe. I think it will pick up 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch. It needs a sway bar and the shocks replaced.
