rear end woes

my drums are soaked in what it looks to be grease as in i filled the drum up with a grease gun . so how hard is it to replace the bearings and seals back there? how much would i run on est. should i find a different rear end with highway gears or what is everyones suggestions?

Not really all that hard. First you will need to pull the rear cover. Remove the pinion shaft bolt and pinion shaft. Then push in on the axles and remove the c-clips.

The seal is easy to get out and back in. But the bearings are a little harder. You will need a bearing puller or slide hammer to get them out. Plus, you need a bearing installation tool to install them. I figure you can use Autozone to find these tools. If not, maybe you can borrow them from somewhere.

If all else fails, with the installation tool, you could use a socket or piece of pipe to fit the bearing and drive it in. Just be careful and don't mess it up or you will be pulling the axles again before long. Same thing with the seal. Don't mess it up putting it back in or it will be full of grease again.
