Value of Holmes 220 wrecker boom

Thinking about purchase of a 71 (see picture) with a wrecker boom.
I want the truck, not the Holmes 220.
What is the value of this piece ?? Would it be hard to unload ??

My neighbors will have a fit if I bring this home and don't get the truck looking 'normal' in a hurry (not to mention my wife).

Comments ?

Re: Value of Holmes 220 wrecker boom

Not sure, but sorry to hear you live in a place where such beauty is far from appreciated. Tell them Special-K says that truck is very normal and anyone that doesn't agree is weird

I'd put $500 on it. I think someone would pay that either to make a junk hauler from their pickup or to build a novel wrecker just like what you'd be tearing down.

I have a neighbor who is a truck guy. He bought a '71 C/30 wrecker and first thing he did was dismantle the boom and take the senior west coast mirrors of. I guess he's not a true truck guy. He had thoughts of making it a 5th wheel hauler. Years went by and I bought it. First thing I did was reassemble the boom and put west coast mirrors back on. I decided to sell it a while back on Craigslist. A guy came down from Buffalo, NY and bought it. The next week it was on Craigslist for more and he had dismantled the boom advertising it as a great Western Hauler candidate. There are many into trucks these days, but a lot less who actually "get it". A Western Hauler would be cool, but why ruin something that is already just too damn cool to hit a cruise-in, a piece of old car culture that is not so commonly found? The neighbor ended up buying a sweet '68 C/30 wrecker a couple years ago. I wanted to snap some shots of it to show here, but within days of buying it he had dismantled the boom. Hey, it's a free world, do what you want with what's yours, and all that. But if you ask me that guy's an idiot

I don't know why, it is way cool and isn't an eyesore. It's one of those things that if two people want it then score, as they aren't lots around in that condition. Value? $1200.

That is a NICE looking truck. Appears to be in above normal condition for its age.
Screw the neighbors

Re: Value of Holmes 220 wrecker boom

The Holmes 220 is a slide in bed wrecker. Its based on the 440 with the two main differences being the electric winch and that it goes into a truck bed. Now there value is low due to them not being practical in a commercial application anymore. There are collectors of towing equipment but you might have to wait a bit. Scrap price to $1000. With the higher side being depending on the accessories that are with it. Like wheel dollys, TA - 105 bars or any Holmes factory installed option. But please don't scrap it.

I would have a heyday with that one. Just wait till they have car problems. That truck is still workin!

I used to drive by the shop in Biloxi where that truck was stored for many years. I always wondered where it went.

Yes, it's nice. Original steering wheel, seat cover, floor mat, radio, and yellow-white paint. Has 350, p st. and brakes, automatic, cold A/C, protecto plate etc. Pretty much rust free.

It was bought from orig owner's wife after a 'Cruisin the Coast' visit. Wife told the new owner that it was her late husbands 'baby' there in Biloxi.

Part of my problem is too little space, plus I cant even pull it in my garage with the wrecker installed.

Someone needs to give this a good home.

Stick it on the parts board for $500. I think that's fair and lots of members close enough to come get it. I think seeing it on that truck will help it a lot, help them picture their truck with it mounted. It's one big ole cool accessory is what it is. You have your shop trucks that NEED this.
