1970 Chevy pickup C20

Some time ago I bought a 1970 pickup with automatic transmission. The startmotor made a strange noise. Today I took a look and found out the transmission is from June 1972. AC Delco has different starter motors for these two years. 1970 is type 336-1836 and 1972 is type 336-1822. What's the difference between these 2 type of starters, can anybody help me? Looking forward your reactions.

Best,

Alex

I don't know about those 2 part numbers, but pretty much the difference is straight across bolt pattern and offset bolt pattern. Each one corresponds to a different size flexplate.

Re: 1970 Chevy pickup C20

After some research it seems that it’s hard to tell which startmotor fits on an truck with parts from several years. I bought the 336-8124 which is the same only the power differs, it’s 1.5 in stead of 1.3. See what happens!!! Thanks for your reply.
