50th Anniversary, any added value

Hello all

Looking for some input on a recent appraisal.

Do you think a 50th anniversary truck has an increased value over the same truck that isn’t the anniversary edition?

I bought my 68 due to the overall great condition and not because it was an anniversary addition. But I have grown to appreciate the history of the model.

So are their collectors searching out 50 th trucks?

Not sure, but the 50th is on my wish list and I know I would pay up for one, especially a C20. One of the best looking pickups Chevy ever made, Imo.

Generally speaking. Yes. It’s opinion based of course, and not everyone will appreciate it. But yeah, it’s special.

Post one up here or other places online and it will get more attention which means they are more desirable to some enthusiasts so I will say yes.

Yes, being a 50th adds desire and could add to value. But prices are so all over the lace with these and all the ways they are redone it would make no more difference on value than dozens of other factors. I'll say it can but it depends. I think it's mostly a matter of if it does something for you then you'll be willing to pay more.

This year is the 50th anniversary of the 50th anniversary and that's purdy dang kewl!

My truck is also a factory air truck and that didn’t seem to mean much to him either.

Did you get it appraised locally or in Edmonton or somewhere else..

I have no idea how a car/truck appraiser figures value. If I ever had an appraisal done on any of my vehicles I hope that person would be an expert in that vehicle, not just a general car/truck guy.

You say you were disappointed, if your truck wasn't an anniversary truck would you have been happy with what he came up with? From what Ive seen trucks like yours don't seem to have anything added ... Yet. But maybe down the road as these trucks are slowly becoming more and more main stream collectibles?

All I have left of my 68 K20 anniversary truck is the tags, title, and build sheet. Maybe they will be worth big money some day lol!

I don't value any of my 3 older vehicles with any high regard... THey are MY interest and hobby. Somebody's opinion of my stuff doesn't matter to me at all...

You may have a reason for wanting your's to be worth more, maybe to sell? or for insurance purposes. One person's opinion of what your pickup is worth wouldn't mean anything to me (if I were you) have it appraised by someone else, if possible...

From what I've learned here, the 50th anniversary pickups were made to celebrate Chevrolet's 50th year of making their awesome pickups (obviously...). The gold color was applied to ANY pickup, with essentially any options that were ordered, from stripped down models to highly optioned models.

The 100th anniversary models are ONE pickup with exact same options (well they make the full size and the small Colorado version), no deviations at all. I was disappointed a lesser expensive 100 year anniversary couldn't be had....

My 68 is likely worth more than some, but is in pieces right now, and worth very little...LOL

Maybe some added value as a 100% restored original or an unrestored original to someone who wants one. A modified or cloned one adds credence to that. A big block helps. Options and rarity on any 67-72 chevy pickup adds value. If its worth more to you then the answer to your question is yes. The truck is valuable.

Is it in "nice" condition or pristine ? 100% stock or slightly modified ? Original paint ? What was the appraisal ? What do you think it should have been ?

Not knowing how the appraisal was done I offer these thoughts. If the appraiser looked over your truck for an hour and then gave you a number then he/she shouldn't have been paid. Considering the appraiser was flown in I am thinking there were a bunch of appraisals lined up to do and again if they were all done in a day then they couldn't have been done properly. When I bought my latest truck in 2014 I had it apparised by a local respected appraiser. He came and spent the better part of an hour checking out the truck and then it was a week before he got back to me with, to me, a very realistic figure on the value of my truck. I have a Stated Value Insurance Policy using the his appariasal figure.

Appraisals are good for insurance purposes, NOT a real figure someone will pay if you were selling it. If you want top dollar for your truck, get a stated value insurance policy for a high amount and push the truck off a cliff, much easier than trying to sell it

I will try and answer a few questions.

I think the appraised value is realistic. I am not looking to sell but a value for insurance it the truck goes missing or is destroyed.

When it came to establishing a value the appraiser quoted a price range from other similar truck sales and then added value for the 396. He did not add any value for being a 50th or for factory air. I am not sure if the 50th package is worth more, hence me asking this group for their opinion.

The appraiser spent an hour looking at and photographing the truck. It was put up on a lift so he could go underneath. It was 10 days later when I received the draft appraisal. So I feel he did a professional job and did do some research. And he is open to questions and updating the appraisal if necessary. I am trying to do a little research before asking him questions.

I live in Whitehorse Yukon and there isn’t an appraiser within 1000 Miles, literally. So getting a second opinion is difficult.

I was expecting a higher number. The appraisal I had done when I bought the truck 7 years ago was higher and I think truck values have increased. But I am starting to wonder if the old appraisal wasn’t high.

Remember if you're having trouble with Photobucket, just get the Chrome extension that "fixes" it and lets images load from anywhere, member or not.

What are you going to accomplish by arguing with the appraiser? About the best you can do, I'd imagine, is to find a reference that shows a value bump for the 50th and pass that along.

But in general, if you hire an expert, let them do their job, and then tell them they did it wrong, it won't go over very well and I doubt you'll change his mind!

Question isn't what its worth, it's what you could build or buy it for. That's what the appraised value for insurance is all about, after all.

The guy that appraised my Red/White '71 4x4 after I finished it, asked me what I wanted him to appraise it at..... I gave him an honest figure of what I thought it was worth and that's what he appraised it at. Insurance company didn't have a problem with it.
