Are we the first to use the rear wheel tubs to build front ones?

Forward inner wings are fabbed and ready to weld in. We are starting the inner panels as well.

Re: Two is easier then one 1965 GMC S/W/BB build
Unfortunately no. I had a computer crash and lost a ton of build pics of that truck...
I will say, yours are a ton more involved and should look a whole lot better than what I had. Mine were functional, but lacked the look I was hoping for...

Your build is what got me to join this forum! Can’t wait for the next installment of photos and updates. Amazing skills fabricating metal is something I wish I had learned when I was younger.
I enjoy following yours. |

Dang nice of you to say. Greg and I have made a lot of progress on finishing off the front clip and should be moving on to building the new core support and mount the large aluminum cross flow radiator Greg purchased. |

Re: Two is easier then one 1965 GMC S/W/BB build
Building the sheet metal for the engine compartment is challenging. The plan is to make it look like it was a factory creation. Lots of intricate multi compound curves and planes all forming what the factory could have done with a large stamping press. Lay out is time consuming.
We use a construction laser to project the finish point of one parts plane onto the curved part it will be married to. |

Re: Two is easier then one 1965 GMC S/W/BB build
Fab work is looking great. The engine bay is more wide open now. It's hard to tell from the pictures, but is there enough room for full turning radius through the full suspension cycle? I didn't catch it if you already mentioned it.

Yes we tested full lock clearance. We removed the shock, removed the spring and remounted it, then we disconnected the sway bar. Mounted the tire and raised the lower control arm with a floor jack until it hit the limiter (This shock has a built in bump stop.) Once we had the wheel at full compression we swung it through its arc and had a full hand of clearance everywhere. |
