1973-1980 AUX Battery Tray

Anyone have any photos of the 1973-1980 left hand AUX Battery tray installed?

Re: 1973-1980 AUX Battery Tray

I don't have pics of mine, but it is is easy to install.
The bolt holes are there. You just need the left side box.(I actually converted a right side box for one of mine).
On trucks that didn't have this option the 2 holes in the fender don't have nuts. You have to add them.

My issue is the tray portion how does that stay on. The bracket was easy just drill out the dimples.

Re: 1973-1980 AUX Battery Tray

The tray is supported by the 2 bolts in the fender and by the long lower bracket that's bolted to the inner fender at the bottom.
Same as the right side box-just a mirror image.
In fact, the tray is the same. The only difference is the support bracket.

here's where I'm at the tray when set on the bracket has the 2 bolts to the outside (towards the radiator) and the hold down facing the firewall as it should.

Update

Lots of Google image searches finally found it so far the general consensus is spot welding, bolting, or using self tapping screws to secure the tray to the bracket.

Searching on this forum and a few others, I have not been the only guy puzzled by the tray.

Re: 1973-1980 AUX Battery Tray

Where did you get that tray?
It's not the same as factory at all. It's turned the wrong way from all mine.
My trucks with it are all 77 and up,so I could be wrong about that.

Re: 1973-1980 AUX Battery Tray

LMC catalog page 193 shows different trays for 73-80 & 81-87.
Earlier is two piece in picture.
Should have a disclaimer- "Welding Required"

X2
I bought my Aux tray from LMC, & I had to weld them together. While I was at it, I added 1/2' square tubing on the bottom of the tray to stiffen it up. Since I'm a welder/fabricator it was a no brainer.

My issue is: LMC didn't add any instructions so I can relate to the OP.

Re: 1973-1980 AUX Battery Tray

I'm just making sure that I'm not missing anything before I drag the welder over and start tacking lol. This is why I asked for photos if all possible since I know I'm not the only one that has had this issue.

I bought my tray off eBay possible the guy who sold it to me couldn't figure it out. Looks just like the LMC, Classic etc. ones it has a Keyparts label so every company selling panels for these trucks will be carrying it.

Even with the knowledge in text we should get some photos on the thread to help others.

Thank you all
