Relocating coolant overflow

Looking for ideas and pics of coolant overflow tanks located inside the engine bay. Right now mine is between the radiator core support and grill. I just completed installation of a new aluminum radiator and would like to install the filler plates between the grill and core support. Not sure a good location for the overflow tank. Plenty of folks on this forum with good ideas so hoping for a brilliant resolution.

I did not get them from speedway, ebay I think, but you get the idea. One of these might open up some other possibilities. They come in alot of sizes.

I'm with you man. I have mine in the same spot and want to use the core filler also. I thought about cutting a hole in the cover to reach it. Just haven't done it yet.

Had the same idea about cutting a hole, just not thrilled about cutting up th filler panels, especially if my hole ends up off a bit

I have a cheap aftermarket tank mounted on the back side of the core support above the horns. It's been there since before I bought the truck 41 years ago. There's a clear plastic line from the radiator cap nipple, under the shroud (one clip at the bottom center of the shroud), and up to the nipple on the bottom of the tank. Doesn't look like much but it's been working nicely for decades.

If you’re concerned about the hole lining up here’s a tip, drill the hole first, mount the tank in the correct position relative to the hole. You can mount the panel, put a piece of clay on the cap of the reservoir and push it into the panel from below. The clay will leave a smudge and you’ll know where to drill the hole. Drill the hole, mount the reservoir so the cap is centered in the hole.

Me personally, I don’t mind having a tank hanging out in the engine bay as long as it isn’t plastic. So I’m eventually going to use something like the 68-72 corvette expansion tanks mounted on the fender behind the battery. I’m sure there’s a cheaper alternative out there though.

I used a s10 tank and made a bracket to hang it off the battery tray. (More information on page 7 of the WMB thread below). However after I did mine I found out about using a G-body tank which needs no bracket. See 2nd photo.

Those tall skinny tanks work well as they don't take up much space and can reside right next to the radiator on the engine side of the core support.

Well you got me going. I went out and cut it and made it fit. This is on the old ratty Ramp truck so it don't matter as far as looks go! It should be fine!

These where old ones I made a long time ago for the 71. They have been butchered since then.

Those are off the old model Monte Carlo's. and such. I installed one years ago in my 71. Probably the first to do it on here.

Just like the windsheild electric washer jug and nozzles.

They are found 80's vintage Monte Carlos, Regals, Cutless and Grand Prix.

Another option is the -94 Astro van tank. It fits in the corner between the fender and the battery box, and hangs low and out of sight except for the top.

I don't have a good pic because my inner fenders are out right now.

Ran across a tank from a mid nineties Mitsubishi Turbo Eclipse and mounted between the battery and the fender. Bad thing is that they don't make this tank anymore, so if it starts to leak I will have to do something different. Been there six years so far.

I used an overflow jug out of a 1987 S10. I had to remove my washer jug to install it but I wasn't using the washer jug anyhow. It almost looks factory as it is in the place the washer jug would have been. I had to run a long overflow hose to the other side of the radiator but haven't had any problems with it.

I'm keeping mine stock. Refill the thing when it runs low and besides, there are too many stay dogs and cats running around anyway.

JUST KIDDING. At some point I'll put in a puke tank but I had planned to mount it between grill and core support like you have. It works, why change it?

75 - 79 Chevy Nova tank will sit completely out of the way under the fender with only the cap exposed for checking/filling.
Most locations in front of the core support will be in the way of a AC condenser.

2nd picture is of a Nova tank in a Camaro from the web.
3rd picture shows it tucked in behind my multi-use battery junction block. The tank lays against the inner fender with one bolt on the fender lip.

That has to be a ***** to fill up. The angle is impossible to use without a funnel and you can't see the level at which to fill to in my opinion.

The original dealership option put it on the rad support right above the horn. Might be a good place to swap yours to so it's out of the way. Just need longer hose to run it under the shroud.
